Topic: Ryzen 5 from Ryzen 3 no video outputPosted: 18 Jul 2019 at 9:55pm |

Hi
I have a B350 Pro4 motherboard on BIOS 5.10 with a Ryzen 3 2200G CPU, 16gb (2x8) Corsair Vengeance RAM & a Radeon RX580 GPU. This works like a dream. I bought a Ryzen 5 1600X & a Ryzen 5 2600X & tried them in the board but got no video output. I used the GPU HDMI & DVI connections as these CPUs don't have on baord graphics....no luck at all. I tried reseating RAM, trying one RAM stick only, cleared CMOS by 'shorting' the pins with the power off & unplugged, removed the battery. Still no video output. BIOS has onboard GPU disabled & as stated earlier I'm using the GPU video ports. Tried with an RX570 & a GTX1070, nothing. Popped the Ryzen 3 2200G back in & all is good again. Any ideas? I'm at a loss as to why this won't accept Ryzen 5 CPUS, the BIOS is later than they require. Thanks in advance. |

That is very odd, possibly something to do with the iGPU on the 2200g messing with settings in the BIOS. Try installing the Ryzen 5 then pull power from the PSU, press the power button to discharge the board fully and clear CMOS. Leave the system disconnected from power for 20mins to an hour then try power up.

Thanks for the advice, just to clarify: the clear CMOS step is specific, it won't happen by discharging the board I think? On that point there is no jumper cap on the 3 pins on my board, they're just open. Is this right? My other board (MITAC Intel 4th gen) has a cap on pins 1 & 2...

Just use the Jumper cap from the other board... ;-)

I was thinking that...first on pins 1 & 2 then, if no response, move to pins 2 & 3 to reset CMOS / BIOS?

Yeah .. just unplug and hold power button for a few seconds ..then take a small flat head screw driver (or equivalent) and touch both set of pins for a few seconds .. plug power back in and turn on and hopefully your back in business. |

This was finally fixed by downgrading BIOS from 5.10 to 4.70; worked first time.
Thanks to Peter Fest from ASRock Support in Holland for the solution! :) |
