Hello All,

I just registered into this forum, as I'm stumped with trying to resolve an issue that I've run into with my B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ax MB.

Currently running the latest BIOS rev, (1.80), and had the rig up and running for about a month with Ubuntu 20.04, no problems. Then, for some reason, and with no errors or log traces hinting of an issue, both my WIFI and Bluetooth radios just... disappeared. My installed OS no longer sees the hardware, nor does a live CD (USB stick) direct boot into the OS.

From a similar situation mentioned over on Reddit, here's what I've done so far, all with no success:

    1. Reinstall BIOS
    2. Reboot into BIOS, and confirm WIFI/BT settings are enabled
    3. PC shutdown, switch off PSU, unplug power cable, and wait 15+ minutes
    4. Short CMOS pins and while shorting, press and hold power button to confirm no residual power

Also, knowing that some past Asrock MBs had issues with mating the WIFI/BT m.2 module/daughterboard to the MB slot, I checked and tightened up the screws holding the module in place.

    Alas, still no WIFI/BT.

This doesn't appear to be about (missing) firmware drivers, as the rig was running just fine before the radio hardware just disappeared. A scan of radio hardware under Ubuntu no longer shows any such hardware. The radios just... seemed to have disappeared.

I'd speculate that the WIFI/BT m.2 module cooked off, but wanted to get your thoughts on any additional testing procedures I can follow up on to help diagnose the cause of the issue here.

BTW, the MB itself is a couple of months old (bought on Newegg), so too late to return to Newegg, but still under Asrock warranty. I'd really prefer to troubleshoot and resolve this myself. Even happy to just replace the m.2 radio board. Really hoping I don't have to go through the RMA process, tear down my rig, pack things up, etc.

Has anyone else experienced something like this before?

    Thanks much

    Rich

To close out this issue, I was able to determine that the Intel AX200 m.2 board had failed.

Just replaced it, and my new board is running fine again. Probably would've made more sense to RMA the board, but for ~$20, just not worth the effort to me.

For anyone looking to replace their WIFI/BT board, you'll want to make sure you purchase the following (or equivalent): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TLBNSZQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

NOTE that, though this page warns that this radio board will not work with an AMD chipset, it clearly does (per Intel's own website). Got to love Amazon for their technical prowess.

For me, this issue is resolved.

Hi there, seems similar to my issue

B550 ITX phantom in 1.05 bios, ryzen 3600

The wifi and BT normally works fine, until I shut it down and then try to boot it up the next day, they're gone. What I would need to do is turn off the psu with the hardware button, switch the pay power back on and boot it up, then the wifi and bt are back

Do you think this is a mobo hardware issue£ Should I try to flash the latest bios

    Thx

One thing that I noticed when swapping out my WIFI/BT m.2 module was that the m.2 screw at the top of the module was preventing the module from properly getting seated in the motherboard socket. So, in my case, while the m.2 module had indeed cooked off, it's possible that this was caused by a poorly-seated module. Others have reported similar situations where the m.2 module wasn't seated properly.

I'd recommend that you visually inspect the WIFI/BT m.2 module, which will mean some disassembly: removing the mb from the case, removing the heat sink, and then pulling the WIFI/BT m.2 module. For me, I then unscrewed the metal RF shielding box (assuming that's why it's isolated this way, but technically makes no sense to me), and then relocated the m.2 module so it was better seated in the mb. I haven't had any problems since.
