Recently I purchased a set of ram rated at 3000mhz. I set it up on the motherboard via the DRAM Tweaker. I have decided to go back to my other set that is rated at 2133mhz. My motherboard is stuck at the profile for the 3000mhz set and will not let me boot with the other set. I have even tried a set rated at 2400mhz. I have tried setting everything to auto, manually changing the timings and frequency, editing the DRAM Tweaker (it is stuck), and tried resetting the bios via the jumper and removal of the battery. I cannot get the profile to change, and I cannot get the bios to reset no matter the method that I use. Any ideas as to what I could do, or do I likely have a defective motherboard?

Very strange problem, I don't recall ever reading a post about this.
Just to confirm, you removed all of the 3000 memory, and only have the 2133 in the board now, correct? Which memory slots are you using? How many DIMMs in each set of memory? Did you check the seating of the 2133 memory in the DIMM slots? Not that this should matter at all, but are both of the memory sets you are using from the same manufacture? Just curious. You've cleared the UEFI/BIOS as you should. The "stuck" DRAM Tweaker is a symptom that could be a corrupted UEFI. I've read people say that clicking the "Load UEFI Defaults" option multiple times can fix stuck options. But if that worked I would still flash the UEFI/BIOS again, as it may be corrupted. If nothing else works, I suggest flashing your UEFI/BIOS again, either with the same version you are using now, or the latest version if you aren't using it. Just to be safe, whatever version you are using, download the file again, don't use the same file you used for the current version you have. Also, be sure to use the Instant Flash update method, with the unzipped UEFI file on a USB flash drive. What version are you using now? Just for an experiment, you could run CPU-Z, and check the SPD tab. That will show some or all of the profiles your memory has programmed into it at the factory. If they look wrong then you know something is corrupted. If they look normal, and you are sure your memory is seated correctly, you should still flash the UEFI/BIOS again. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html |

I have removed the 3000mhz memory and have tried it with only 2133mhz memory and only 2400mhz memory. I am using the 1st and 3rd slot as suggested in the manual. I have checked the seating and reseated each set multiple times. One set is 2x8GB, and two sets are 2x16GB. I have gotten several different sets to work on the mb prior to the 3000mhz set. The 3000mhz set will run at whatever speed I set it to as shown in CPU-Z, but the system will only post with the 3000mhz set, regardless of the set frequency/timings.
I have tried flashing the UEFI via the Windows tool. I will try to do it with the Instant Flash USB method and see if that helps. Thank you so much for the quick response!

While the memory slots being used should not be related to your problem, your board has the same recommendations for which slots to use that all ASRock dual channel memory boards have: ![]() But I'm guessing you are counting the slot that is the farthest from the CPU as the first slot, which is B2. I tend to look at it from the other direction, but you are not wrong. ![]() Please use Instant Flash and not the Windows method. Actually, your board has the Internet Flash feature, which will download the latest Instant Flash file and use it to update the UEFI. It is suggested to connect a USB flash drive to the IO panel when using Internet Flash, so a copy can be saved if power is lost during the update process. Let us know what happens, that is a crazy problem you have. If the UEFI flash does not work, you may need to get a new UEFI/BIOS chip for your board. |
