Thinking of buy this board
This is from page 49 of the manual 2.14 M.2 SSD Module Installation Guide (M2_1 and M2_2) The M.2 is a small size and versatile card edge connector that aims to replace mPCIe and mSATA. The Hyper M.2 Socket (M2_1, Key M) supports type 2260/2280 PCIe Gen4x4 (64 Gb/s) mode. The Blazing M.2 Socket (M2_2, Key M) supports type 2260/2280 PCIe Gen5x4 (128 Gb/s) mode. * If M2_2 is occupied, PCIE1 will downgrade to x8 mode. * Either M2_1 or M2_2 can be used at a time. Does the last line imply that you can only use either M2_1 or M2_2 but not both at the same time? Len |

Correct you can you 1 or 2. Not a huge loss as you still have 3, 4, and 5 available. I looked at a lot of MBs most of them where all the same.
Here is my present Drive Config Samsung M.2 990 Pro 2TB M2_2 Samsung M.2 970 Evo 2TB M2_3 Samsung M.2 970 Evo 2TB M2_4 Samsung SATA 870 Evo 4TB SATA3_0 Samsung SATA 870 Evo 2TB SATA3_2 Samsung SATA 860 Pro 1TB SATA3_4 Reminder, the M2_2 is most for the Future, as there are no PICe 5 M.2 current available. That said the new 990 is a Gen 4 and it does saturate the Bandwidth for PCIe 4.0. According to tests. So, I dropped it in M2_2 for fun. Also, there are no video cards that can saturate PCIe 5 x8, they are only now starting to Saturate PCIe 3 x16. So, we have a good Decade of use. Writing to you from a Z790 Steel. |
