Hello, I have a Asrock 970 extreme4 and a AMD x2 550.

I used to have a different motherboard and I could unlock 2 cores without problems. I could even overclock the CPU to 3.5ghz.

Now when I try to unlock cores with the asrock motherboard I get a message saying that errors where found and they give me a few options, like entering bios, proceed to windows without the unlocked cores, etc.

If I disable safe boot the PC will boot normally to windows with 4 cores, but as soon as I reboot the UCC becomes disabled at bios and the unlocked cores disappears.

Is there a way to avoid the UCC to become disabled?

Thanks in advanced for any help.

First, it looks like ASRock wants you to use BIOS 2.80 as that is all they offer on the BIOS page. So if you aren't on 2.80, I would highly suggest you use Instant Flash by hitting the F6 key during POST or on the Advanced tab from  within the BIOS to do so.

Please post back the results of this after you flash to 2.80.

I tried with 2.80 and with the beta version available at asrock's web page and the problems persisted. The UCC becomes disabled as soon as I restart PC and enter bios.

Sometimes, if I dont enter bios after rebooting, the 4 cores are still available, but sometimes not, and I have to restart again, enter bios and re-enable UCC.

Is this a bug of the model I have or my MB is malfunctioning?

Btw, another issue that I'm having with my MB is that the manual overclock of my CPU is activated all alone. I've tried to make an hard reset of the bios but this keeps happening many times.
