AB350m - Ram Voltage unstable over stock |

Hi, I'm slowly trying to work my way through kinks with this board. I've noticed some really strange behaviour, any guesses on if it's the ram or the board?
What happens is that whenever I try and up the volt's the system becomes unstable, for augments sake if I choose 1.35v for the ram it wont pass Aida64 at stock speed and timings. If I leave the mem voltage alone, the sticks are absolutely fine, and can get a decent overclock. Never experienced anything like this before so I'm stumped, any ideas? Specs: Ryzen 1400 @ 3.8ghz - 1.36v VDDP 1.1v Corsair Vengeance 2133 2x4gb@ 2860mhz 16-20-21-48-69 @ 1.2v (let the board set the timings for now) H5AN4G8NMFR-TFC Asrock Ab350m I've got a hunch that it's the board, since a lot of people are having problems with it. its just a very wierd speed never heard of it before but i think i'll stick to 3466 mhz without updating bios thanks

Oh wow! what amazing speed ![]() Didn't ask anything about the speed of your ram, you asked a question and I answered it. Interestingly I think Agesa halved straps down from 266MT's to 133MT's from around 2666mhz all the way to 4000mhz If you updated the bios you wouldn't think it's a very weird speed lol :P |

It could be that the board (or the CPUs memory controller) and RAM don't just work well together @ 1.35V for some odd reason. You'd probably need some other memory kit (from the memory QVL) to test if it's the combination of parts that's causing issues. By the way, are you sure you have the memory specs correct? Corsair's web page does not list any 4GB Vengeance memory under 2400MHz, only Corsair Value Select. Also, you've listed the chip number but not the product code for the memory kit, which would tell us if the memory is officially supported on this board.
I don't think I've even tested my RAM at stock and 1.35V. I've pretty much had the RAM overclocked from day one with 1.35V and have had no issues at lower speeds than the maximum I can use. My CPU voltage is currently set at 1.325V and all other voltages I've left at their stock values. I'm on BIOS version 3.3 since it has worked well so far. Thanks for the insight buddy, it's not just 1.35v though. Any voltage change over stock is unstable. The more V the more unstable , 1.35v craps out within 5 secs of Aida64 and 1.25 will last a few mins. The part number for the ram is CMK8GX4M2A2133C13 and they are definitely Vengeance. If I keep everything stock and up the volts to the ram it's still unstable, which is leading me to believe the boards voltage regulators are rubbish and suffer from mega droop when pushed. I thought the 4.90 bios would help but sadly not. It's actually a damn shame as these sticks are doing 2860mhz at 1.2v - I'm sure that I can get way more out of them and lower the timings with a few more volts. I might not have won the silicone lottery on the cpu but these sticks are mega. I've got the ATX version of this board coming now as I think these mATX boards are more trouble than they are worth - let's hope the new board is okay.

I know exactly what they are buddy, and their not exactly garbage if they do 2800+ on stock volts. The chips used are H5AN4G8NMFR-TFC, they should do 3200+ with a few volts The problem is the board acting scatty with anything above stock ram voltage...

Thank you for the product code. I found them now on Corsairs website and the specs check out; I must've made some mistake in my initial search. Also - as I feared - the memory is not on the memory QVL and thus is not supported. This is of course not the same as "it won't work", it just means that ASRock makes no promises and if you run into any sort of weird issues, they'll probably just tell you to get memory that is on the QVL. The chip number apparently refers to SK Hynix, so if it's A-die or M-die, then it should be nearly as good as Samsung B-die, but the rated speed is probably low for a reason. Higher speeds tend to require higher voltages than 1.2V, so maybe Corsair has saved on the power management components on the modules... Even so, it still sounds odd that they would be so sensitive that even 1.25V isn't stable. Aida64 isn't even that demanding compared to something like Prime95. Overall, I'd still probably lean towards it being the combination of it all: RAM modules that are sensitive to voltages and a motherboard and CPU combination that isn't too fond of the particular kit you have. Hopefully the new motherboard will give you a combination that will allow you to adjust the voltages more freely.
