Hey

I was looking to get Fatal1ty board for from what I can see they are EOD?! Is refresh coming?

I wanted it for their 10gbe and 2 1gbe notwork options as well as the m.2 connectors. Its for workstation build.

Any1 know anything maybe?

Please do yourself a favor and stay away form ASRock.

If you check this forum you'll see how much ASRock have neglected their X399 and X370 boards.

Stick to the likes of HP, Dell for workstations. A flashy, bling-edition of Fata1ity is hardly a WS material.

Oh dear really? I got some micro asrock board that runs a render node for past 5 years and I never had any issues with it. So the new 399 TR4 sockets boards are bad? Damn the 10gbe socket was a great selling point as I could just go with 4x 2080ti & 32core/64/128gb ram and 10gbe from board natively. Sigh !

I wish I was kidding you.

Take your time and look around here. None of us really thought ASRock would cr@p that much on their products' support, but here we are.

They make a really decent hardware, but that's pretty much it. All you get is a well-engineered paperweight.

I got my X370 Taichi for light VM workstation build and nearly 2 years later all I can do with it is some browsing, office work and light gaming. If it decides to POST, that is, because it often it won't.

I'm now oogling the ROG ZENITH EXTREME for a decent 2950X build. Unlike ASRock's BS this one makes a decent WS.

Words of wisdom - stay away!

Oh dear! Crap thanks for warning!

In this case I think the only other alternative nos is Gigabyte I think, they seem to be the only othe one who offers 10gbe connection.

Its so weird that 2990wx has such small support! Its the best cpu for workstation/rendering stuff and yet the boards don't have 10gbe as standard. Feels to me like industry is trying to threat that cpu as gaming and not work cpu!

Any hints on X399 AORUS XTREME (rev. 1.0)? - is there Rev2? I though they did a refresh for 2990wx

AORUS have always been glorified PoS in my books.

TBH, I always go with ASUS for demanding custom desktop/WS builds, and I've never regretted it.

I just tried ASRock this time around because all the internets were praising their X370 Taichi line. Boy, was I wrong.

In a recent thread here guys were cursing the merely 3rd (yes, 3rd, for almost year and a half) BIOS release for ASRock's top X399 board. Come on!

Bottom line - if I had the need - I would get the ZENITH EXTREME. It's a monster of a mobo and it will surely be a decent investment. I know it's expensive but is $30 less for another mobo worth it?

apart from 10gb lan
the msi meg x399 seems to be the workstation board and has power phases for the 32 core cpu

if the 10gb lan is so important though why not just get a add in card

its not like TR dosnt have enough pcie lanes is it LOL

datonyb is onto something here - decent 10Gbps add-on cards are ~$120 nowadays.

2990WX build won't be a budget one for sure - it will need a monster of a PSU, monster of a cooler, sh*tload of (fast and expensive) RAM, decent CPU power phases (and cooling for them), and probably RAID NVMe SSD for boot or NV cache.

All of the above is well beyond an 'enthusiast' budget, so a measly $120 on the top won't be the deal breaker.

Judging from your nickname, you're probably a Magyar. It's wise to check mindfactory.de for decent price on all PC stuff.

Hmmm Yeah I did look in to ASUS/MSI. But they don't have native 10gbe do they. I need onboard 10gbe as if I want to use 4x 2slot gpu. Then there are no pcie left to use for 10gbe card.

This rig will be my main workstation. I'm jumping from old 8 core intel to the 32 amd. I have 64gb ram, that I'm considering to upgrade to 128gb, as well as NVMEs, I use nas 10gbe etc so I don't need lots of local storage.

How important is ram speed on the 2990wx ? I have 2400mghz ones. It never really did any difference in past on renders so I never care for ram speed.

TIA

Hmm, 4 x 2-slot GPU would be a deal breaker for add-on NIC... Shocked

Running TR in quad-memory config. will hamper your ability to run higher RAM speeds due to controller limitations. Ironically, TR/Ryzens benefit from high RAM speeds. 2400 should do just fine.

Overall, it should be a decent upgrade anyway. 2990WX's potential lies with rendering and similar tasks.

You could really use NVMe in RAID for a local cache, it will surely beat 10Gbps NIC.

By being a Magyar I meant you're Hungarian. I've seen only Hungarians use 'sz' together.
