Hi yes a custom loop only the CPU as I can not find a GPU block for my 280x anymore.

Fans are connected to the header as then I can control them with the ASRock software.  The (EK Furious Varder 3000rpm) Are very loud so I can run them at half speed until I need them at full.
Radiator is just mounted to the P5.

Here it is so far until I mount it on the wall and clean it up.

I did a quick stress test for 10 minutes 100% load and the max temps were

CPU 46c
CPU DIODE 21c
VRM1 78c
VRM2 25

And yes the only fan is the Spot Cool it is blowing quite a lot of air at it.
Have to move it around and find out where to position it to get the lowest temps.

My version of the P5 has only a piece of Acrylic on the front which I'm not going to put on until I have wall mounted it.

Have not found any water blocks for this motherboard even if any existed.

If I find some kind of waterblock will I need to have one on each heat sink?

Thanks

Haven't modified the cooling just have a Spot Cool 100 over it.  Case is open chassis Thermaltake Core P5 so just open.

Here are some shots of the spot cooler.  It doesn't look like it is but it is angled more to the bottom heatsink VRM1

tried to measure the temperatures with a cheap IR thermometer but as I can only point it at the heatsink  on the VRM1 it just reads around 25c just like VRM 2 does using AIDA

screenshot using hwmonitor but doesn't show anything there really.

I would like to have this worked out so I could try running the computer on turbo mode.

Thanks

The CPU is not "throttling", that is one or more CPU power saving options active in the BIOS, and the Windows Power plan you are using dropping the core speeds under low loads. That is keeping the VRM temperature lower BTW, rather than having all the cores wide open all the time. If you think the VRMs are too hot now, running the PC in "turbo mode" will make them even hotter.

Throttling of a CPU is a safety feature that is active when a CPU is over heating. That saves it from destruction.

So what you have here is a custom loop CPU cooler, plus probably the GPU too, with the radiator fans apparently not connected to the board's fan headers (does not matter), and the radiator outside of the P5 case?

Water cooling the CPU is the worst case situation for VRM cooling. The tradeoff of a CPU water block is higher VRM temperatures, and the extra work need to keep the VRM stage cool. If you want the VRM temperature similar to the CPU, you have some major work to do.

The only fan you are using besides the radiator fans is the Spot Cool? Your case really has no where to mount any fans, right?

All your temperature readings are great, except the VRM, being the highest. The only way you will get the VRM temperature down is to get some cool air circulating inside the case, or find a water block to fit the VRM and chipset for your board... probably does not exist.

I imagine you don't want to ruin the looks of your build with more fans, or any fans inside, right? But there is no magic way to keep the VRM cool... except to downclock the CPU and lower the VCore, which is the opposite of what you want to do. Your issue does not have a simple fix.

No information about any CPU OC, VCore, and type of CPU cooler, or PC case ventilation. You may have a fan moving air across the VRM heat sink, but if you don't have much fresh air coming into the area near the VRM heat sink, it will be more difficult to cool.

What is the 71C reading from, a sensor reading for the VRM, or something like an IR thermometer reading of the heat sink? Was that temperature reading from just a normal day of use of the PC? What's the room temperature like where the PC is located? The VRM heat sink is shared via a heat pipe with the 990FX chipset, which tends to run warm too. Many factors and variables involved.

VRM chips usually have temperature specs of about twice the 71C temperature before they are too hot. The VRM chips on your board are high quality devices and not delicate. What is the typical temperature that they reach?

You always want any chip on a mother board to be as cool as possible, but I would prefer the VRM chips to stay below ~80C, and the lower the better.

any way you can modify the vrm cooling

on my phenomx4 965 i literally had to slice an old pentium 4 alloy heatsink down into a vrm cooler
i then used artic branded thermal adhesive to stick it on

a bit frankenstien but hey it works well

71 degrees doesn't sound too bad, especially with an FX9590 which is a beast of a CPU when it comes to stressing the VRM. If that's under stress testing, then it's about what you can expect as far as I know. Is the CPU throttling because of the VRM heating up?
