I just want to post an update: It worked with the Celeron: The system came to live, I updated and then it would also work with the i5-9600k

My friend btw thinks it is a scam to make you buy 2 CPUs. Now, I disagree BUT this certainly is a result of monopoly and vendor lock.

Is there a technical reason that it shouldn't work without firmware update?

I don't think so. In the days of socket 7 this actually worked better than it does now. You could use any CPU that was for socket 7 regardless of the BIOS. Also, it didn't even matter if the CPU was Intel or AMD.

Happy to help Wink

Be sure to use the instant flash method when you update, it is by far the safest and most reliable method Thumbs Up

I'm getting a Celeron G4900 for the BIOS update.

Unfortunately, yes. That board is on the budget end of the spectrum and doesn't have a socketed BIOS ROM or flashback functionality so you will need a CPU supported by your current BIOS version to perform the update, idealy one that is supported on all versions to avoid further compatibility issues.

This is ever the issue with iterative CPU releases on the same socket, it isn't as much of an issue on more expensive boards that have the flashback option but on cheaper boards we always see this Unhappy

Sadly, ASRock can't do much about it without significantly increasing the cost of these lower end boards which would negate the value of them almost entirely.

Maybe see if you can borrow a CPU or buy a cheap celeron that is supported. The G4900 should do the trick and isn't too expensive.

I'm assembling my PC. It doesn't have video, There's no beep either. The fans are on, Power LED works.

I think the board B360M-HDV is not BIOS updated and that's the issue. The CPU is i5-9600k which requires P3.10 but I can't update the BIOS if it doesn't boot. :(

Possibly, to have the B360 chipset running with an 9th gen CPU, you need a 8th gen CPU to update the BIOS first?
