Almost! :-)
1. shut down, unplug power cable from PSU 2. remove CMOS battery, then press Power ON button for 10-15s 3. put battery back in, plug the power cord back in 4. power on the PC, but enter BIOS 5. flash BIOS to 5.10, wait it to finish 6. reboot once or twice after new BIOS is installed 7. power off, unplug the power cable AGAIN 8. disassemble CPU & cooler (clean the cooler from residual paste) 9. replace CPU, cooler (apply paste again) 10. repeat from 2. to 4. (incl.) again; every HW change requires CMOS reset 11. dial in your XMP settings, and any oter you want 12. re-install OS (highly recommended) 13. ??? 14. profit |

In theory that should also work. Just make sure you always do an additional reboot between flashes and CMOS resets.

I was told to flash the bios with the 1600 still installed, then to swap the cpus.

K4 is good. I'd say update the latest 5.10 BIOS and go with the 2600.
Shut down, replace CPU, boot. Clear CMOS, reboot, flash 5.10. Reboot and only try XMP for the memory. All should be fine. |

The forum board truncated your link. Are you using the K4 or the mini-ITX board? Gaming K4 has BIOS v5.10, which looks promising.
2600 is definitely better than the 1600 but the true performance of the former is achieved with 4x0-series chipsets (e.g. XFR2, PBO2). Memory compatibility is also improved with the 2600. I say out with the old 1600, in with the new 2600. |

hi everyone, I am needing to know, I am currently using this motherboard https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty%20AB350%20Gaming... paired with a ryzen 5 1600 cpu. I just bought a ryzen 5 2600 cpu cause it was dirt cheap. now my motherboard bios is version 4.90 which should work with the 2600. should I update to the latest bios or keep it where its at? ive always been scared to update the bios. or should I even upgrade to the 2600 from the 1600? I figured I can get a little faster clock speeds on both the ram and cpu. also my 1600 right now is overclocked to 4ghz 1.38 volts stable but the ram is at 2800 MHz that's max, and the ram is rated at 3000 mhz. but im using a 4x8 config. here is the ram im using http://www.xpg.com/en/feature/482
