I can confirm that the following issue still exists with FW 1.50:

2. When pressing F11 to display the boot selection menu, the screen is not shown, and it only appears as you swipe the mouse backwards and forwards across the screen.

However, so far I have not encountered the following in FW 1.30

1. In the Boot selection screens my primary SSD is listed twice. (It's a Samsung 850)

3. As other people have mentioned in posts, I have experienced the firmware freezing on me and requiring a forced reboot.

Maybe these have been fixed!

When it becomes readable you can see that one of the entries is a very long string of nonsense.

I see that firmware 1.30 has been released.
Is there a more detailed description of the changes available than this?

1.Support DDR4 OC
2.Improve DRAM module compatibility.
3.Improve PCIe compatibility
4.Update ME

Smart man once sad - If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Did everything worked for You on 1.00? YES
Did You needed to update it? NO
Can You revert back? YES
Have You done it? NO
Why haven't You? CHICKEN

Anyway - any EEPROM re-programming is a risk.
ASRock is a smart manufacturer, because many of the users aren't.
If the Flash goes bad - You can replace the EEPROM chip with a spare one
from ASRock - for free.

And here is a Linux Potato.

1. Are the double entries for your 850 (OS drive?) identical?
-- Yes

2. Does one entry look like, "AHCI: Samsung 850...", and the other "UEFI: Samsung 850...", or whatever the ID for the 850 is?
-- I will post a photo of the entries.

3. Have you ever installed an OS more than once on that SSD? Or did you install an OS on another drive while the 850 was in the PC and powered up?
--I have installed OS many times to this drive and other drives (not currently in system) in the past week!
--My EFI System partition has the following contents
EFI
EFI \ Ubuntu \
EFI \ Ubuntu \ grub.cfg
EFI \ Ubuntu \ grubx64.efi
EFI \ Ubuntu \ MokManager.efi
EFI \ Ubuntu \ shimx64.efi

The AHCI and UEFI entries described in 2, above, can be caused by a Windows installation with an MBR and GPT boot partition on the drive.
-- I am running Ubuntu 15.10
-- The drive should be GPT only

I've seen that myself on a few rare occasions on some of my ASRock boards, but only in the UEFI/BIOS display) there may be a problem with the 1.20 firmware.
--Agreed, I never noticed this with the 1.00 firmware

What method for updating the UEFI did you use?
-- Instant flash

I have done a 'reset to defaults'

2. When pressing F11 to display the boot selection menu, the screen is not shown, and it only appears as you swipe the mouse backwards and forwards across the screen.

I will try to post a screen shot.
(This was not present in firmware 1.0)

I can't say that the 1.20 firmware is not the problem, I really don't know. But it is possible that if a drive has multiple boot partitions on it, that might cause two entries in the boot list. That can be caused by the situation in 3, above.

The AHCI and UEFI entries described in 2, above, can be caused by a Windows installation with an MBR and GPT boot partition on the drive.

Given how you described how you can "paint" the F11 menu with the mouse (I know exactly what you are describing, I've seen that myself on a few rare occasions on some of my ASRock boards, but only in the UEFI/BIOS display) there may be a problem with the 1.20 firmware.

I've noticed that if for whatever reason some of the pre-boot displays (UEFI, F11 Menu) aren't displayed immediately, being delayed for some reason, if I move the mouse I will see the screen being displayed in one cursor rectangle pieces at a time, as you described. Normally the screen will then display as it should in my experience.

What method for updating the UEFI did you use?

If firmware 1.20 is the problem, you'll see a new version available and the 1.20/bad version will be removed from the firmware list.

Hi 'ASRock Expert'

since any time you flash the firmware there is the possibility of corruption I would prefer not to do it without good reason.

I would maybe accept such a suggestion from an AS Rock tech support person, but not from a newbie called 'AS Rock Expert'.  I hope you understand!

Anyway, my first point was a question about how the firmware populates the boot list.
My second point says that the issue was not present in v1.0

Thanks

Revert to 1.10 or 1.00 and check if Your problem still exist.
