Just to finish up; it did actually say 1.50 on the BIOS chip so I loaded 1.50, 2.00 and 3.50 onto a usb stick, finally got into UEFI and it said L3.43. The Flash utility would not recognise BIOS 2.00, so it definitely had L3.43 on, so proceeded to update to 3.50 without problem, fortunately.
Everything is great now, got the build done, got OSes set up, really pleased with the build. Just got to fiddle with hardware / system fine tuning now. |

If your BIOS is that old, it might be too old for a 200GE, consider a 2200G (or a 1200 plus a $20 ebay video card to get it up and running).

I've just spoken to the tech guy at the retailer I bought it from (he does their system builds for the public) and he assures me that any new processors without the correct string information would NOT be recognised by Dr Debug and would remain blank.
He also thinks the BIOS I currently have is at 1.50, so I think I'll need to flash twice to get to current 3.60. Seeing as though this particular X470 motherboard was the one I wanted, with exactly what I needed, I'll buy the Athlon 200GE chip and probably keep it. Thanks all for the input, it was valuable to get to this point. |

I had a 2000 series chip available and immediately updated the bios. So I don't know if Dr. Debug would've shown any codes if I had my 3700x in there instead. If you don't want to hassle with the AMD loaner program or get a compatible CPU some other way, only way other way to guarantee your board will work with your chip is to get an X570 board.
What I did is bought a cheap Athlon chip from Amazon and am going to resell it on Ebay. I did it that way because of Amazon's 2 day shipping. |

It appears there is a 'loan boot kit' available from AMD, basically they loan you a AMD Athlon 200GE so you can do a BIOS update.
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100#faq-Short-Term-Processor-Loan-Boot-Kit I think I'll still RMA the board as I still don't trust the fact that there is no working Dr Debug. It still think it should have registered something at least to let you know the chip was incompatible at the current BIOS. No LED, no beep cod, no nothing? |

So I deduce from that you had a Ryzen 2xxx processor hamdy and updated the BIOS?

Just because it says it's Ryzen 3000 ready doesn't mean it is. It means it could be if the BIOS is up to date. My board came with a small sticker on the BIOS chip indicating what version of BIOS it came with. The sticker on mine said P3.20 which meant I had to update my bios before it would recognize my Ryzen 3700x chip. Bios for the Taichi x470 need to be at least 3.40 for Ryzen 3000 CPUs.

I don't, I bought it because it says "AMD Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready" on the box so assumed it was either 3.10 or 3.20 BIOS and had read that was enough.

Do you know which bios version is on the board?
Version 3.40 at least must be used for the Ryzen 5 3600. |

Hi Xaltar
If I short it it starts the fan up and corrects the 'stutter' it just stays on, which I presume is normal. In fact it starts the fan up every time of doing that procedure, what it doesn't do is shut the fan down if I try to short it again - and still no Dr Debug led, not even a flicker. |
