well .... a bios update might cure your woes as you are running a pretty old version and are obviously having some issues

I'm not too bothered about updating the bios. But yes, it's fat32 formatted and there is only the rom on the drive. The main problem is it hardware reserving all the memory above 8gb for no reason.

which version are you trying to update to? Website says update to 5.50 before going any newer. Make sure you just have the straight AB35PR45.50 ROM file and that it's not still zipped up. What format is your USB drive formatted in? Fat32? NTFS? (either one should work)

I cleared the CMOS on the bios to see if that helped (which had been version P5.40) It's now on the board default. I can't reflash the bios as it always tells me it cant find the image on the root drive of the USB.

which BIOS are you running? Have you tried updating the BIOS? Have you tried just clearing the CMOS?

Hi there, I have exhausted many options and have a post on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/feus23/how_do_i_find_out_what_hardware_is_reserving_half/) for this issue, but also need to ask on the asrock site as im more and more convinced it's a motherboard problem:
If there is more than 8gb of memory installed it is "hardware reserved". It is NOT a GPU issue (I have amd Vega 64, but swapped for a 750ti and the issue was still there). It is NOT an issue with any of the individual memory sticks (Each works fine on their own and have all been through memory tests). The current memory installed is CMK16GX4M4A2666C16 which is 4x4GB sticks which is on the memory QVL list. Many people have said it is likely a memory mapping issue or some memory settings in the bios need adjusting, but how do i find the problem? What settings of the 1000s in the bios should I adjust to fix this? |
