Hdmi IN motherboards and audio

   I am thinking of doing a htpc build and my question is on the mb's with hdmi input is the audio coming from say a ps4 simply passed through to the monitor or can I plug in a set of headphones to the mb and still have simulated surround sound?  Basically will the onboard realtec decode the incoming 5.1/7.1 Dolby bitstream From hdmi and pack it into the simulated surround for headphones?  Thanks
