I am glad it worked

Keep them paired in channels so A1, B1, C1 and D1 of the same model then A2-D2 of
the other model. That is how I would do it anyway. They will all default to the
same timings and sub timings regardless. Mostly it will just look better with
the 2 kits alternating. I guess you could put all of one in one side and all of the
other on the other side if you like the look better.

Never use old Quadro and FirePro cards for testing in new boards, they are workstation
cards and have terrible compatibility compared to mainstream/gaming cards.
It isn't as much of an issue with PCIe 3.0 compatible cards but 2.0 and older
often don't work.

WOW! I cannot believe it...I tried your advice...and it worked!! Put an older GTX 760 card in, with a single 8 GB ram in A1 and it booted to bios! Checked settings, all seemed OK. Had to muck around with Windows as boot drive was changed and I missed that in the bios....but into Windows and doing checks...

So 1 other question...Manual recommends putting ram pairs as A2 & B2 C2 & D2, A1 & B1 and C1 & D1. Given that I have 2 sets of 8 GB ram; what is the best way to pair them up? 4 x 8 GB G-Skill Trident-Z 16-16-18-38 ram to A2 & B2 C2 & D2 and 4 x 8 GB G-Skill Flare-X AMD 16-16-18-38 ram to A1 & B1 and C1 & D1
or 4 x 8 GB G-Skill Trident-Z 16-16-18-38 ram to A1 & A2, B1 & B2 and the 4 x 8 GB G-Skill Flare-X AMD 16-16-18-38 ram to C1 & C2 and D1 & D2....or does it really not matter?

The old Quadro card was a goer...only used it as my current setup is using a Display Port cable and any/all of the basic cards I have only had DVI or HDMI, the Quadro was the only card with the D-Port making connecting to my monitor easy.

Will give your advice a go [how does the I/O cmos button supposed to be used? Power connected but system off, push the cmos button and turn the PC on? Or turn the PC on and as soon as booting starts, momentarily push the cmos button? Does the mobo cmos button work the same way?]

Will try just 1 ram in A2?

First up, unless that old quadro worked in the system before, swap it for your
original GPU. Second, clear CMOS again (just the button on the IO panel) and power
the system on. Leave it powered on for 15 mins or so and see if it eventually posts.
Older Quadro cards often don't play nice with newer boards.

Was hoping I'd see a reply or 2 this morning...ah well! Reversed all the instructions about clearing the cmos. Got my phone ready to video start...turned system on...nothing except upon turn on...green leds showed around the Taichi chipset heatsink momentarily, then they changed to blue, FANS STARTED UP...NOTHING ELSE.

Lots of experimenting seating ram, cmos battery, cmos switch then I noticed it seems as tho the Reset switch on the mobo was stuck in the "pressed on" position. Used a needle to physically "fix" the switch by "pulling" the button itself back out. Then pressed a couple of times as if I was using it....felt like it was now working properly. Then turned PC on same green led changing to blue...but the debug led illuminated, started changing numbers and the red leds on the Power and Reset buttons were also illuminated.

Debug stuck on 62 for a short time, then changed to 99 thought it was going to boot...then it changed to 0d, the red leds on the both buttons and on the debug digital readout extinguished...and back to nothing happening. All this with just 1 stick of ram in A2 and a basic quadro 580 video card.

Can think of no reason for any of this...HELP PLEASE!!

System has been running successfully for some time now...Threadripper 1920X...wanted to increase ram. Current fitment 4 x 8 GB G-Skill Trident-Z 16-16-18-38 Ram.

Had a set of 4 x 8 GB G-Skill Flare-X ram with the same 16-16-18-38 timings. Sought advice on other forums from those with more knowledge than me with regard to AMD systems...was advised likely be compatible.
Download the mobo manual to check which slots the ram recommendations suggested.

The existing rams were in A2, D2, C2 & D2...so I put the 1st pair of Flare-X into C1 and D1 booted to bios to check the ram - recognised correctly...f10 and turned off.

Added the next pair to A1 and B1 slots, turned on to bios checked and all 8 rams recognised...saved settings and rebooted....system started up, seemed to take a while and restarted itself once, then I saw the Windows spinning wheel...then nothing! Just hung...

Tried a restart and booting started...didn't get to Windows wheel, system just hung again...here's my first mistake! Did not write down the error codes and after about 4 attempts, the last error code was 0d. Some of the early codes were not 0d, and they were different each time system was turned on.

Turned off and tried to reset cmos using button on I/O shield...that did not help...was then getting nothing when I tried to turn it on. Eventually started the google search...saw an Asrock forum post about the need to do a proper reset [power lead disconnected, press pwr button for 10 secs, remove battery, short cmos pins, leave for 4 hours, remove jumper to correct position, replace battery, restart....

So will leave it till morning and hope for the best. Am in Australia so maybe someone on the other side of the world may have an idea or hint...here's hoping!
