I solved this on a x399 taichi with a pci-e ssd and in this setup with an 8x pci-e SSD , it's faster then the M2 slot for obvious reasons and on benchmark test also and a hamstrung m2 indeed right under a hot graphics card. the only culprit is do not fill the M2 to 90% cause this will destroy a heated m2 sooner

Thanks for the info! I was looking at those adapters for installing the SSD in the pcie4 slot. I just wasnt sure what was to go with this. I will have to try to research it further and possible see if i get any more replies to this post with someone who has done the same thing maybe. Thanks for your response and pointing me in a better direction!

Wow this is one idiotic set up there, Asrock. You install M.2 slot right under 90C of radiating heat (A GPU), and disable user to place that source of heat (A GPU) to second full PCI-e slot. Way to go!!!

To answer your question. Yes, that and any other SSD without heatsink will fit there, easily, however it will be constantly cooked by your graphics card, because you cannot place your GPU second full length pcie slot.

I have the same SSD, which is fitted right under primary PCI-e slot, and when I got my new GPU and fitted it, SSD was reaching 70C under normal load. Don't even want to think of the temps under full load. So I had to use pcie riser to bring my GPU to the side of the case.
If you don't want to risk your new SSD to fail because of heat, consider using pci-e adapter for your M.2 SSD. You put your SSD into adapter and plug that adapter into your PCI-E4 slot. If you can find some, you can even buy pcie interface NVMe SSDs, but they are very rare these day for some reason

Hi. Looking to upgrade to an SSD drive. By what I have been able to find out, it seems like an m.2 NVMe is the way to go. My question is, will it work with my computer! I DO have a socket for it (according to the motherboard specs - 1 x M.2_SSD (NGFF) Socket 3, supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen2 x4 (20 Gb/s)). However, it also states the following - If PCIE4 is occupied, M2_1 will be disabled. The M.2 socket does not support SATA M.2 SSDs.
Currently the PCI4 slot is unoccupied but the m.2 slot is kind of under my graphics card. I assume, an hope?, that the SSD can tuck under there??? Otherwise id have to move the graphics card to the PCI4 slot thud rendering the m.2 useless.
This is the MB I have:
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970A-G3.1/
the graphics card is in the PCIe2 slot currently.
Could anyone tell me 1. if the SDD will fit under that graphics card and 2. will this SDD work -
Samsung 970 Evo Plus
Thanks so much in advance!
