The gain in speed is not that great, but IOPS are the same as specs - so that is great for many small files.

So I'll be the first ? (never in my life before) This morning I stumled over some cryptical letters : GPT. Investigating this, learnd me that any NVMe must be GPT - NOT MBR. (formatting means establishing MBR - no other chois that I could find) So do this at first : In BIOS : Storage OpRom - UEFI only Video OpRom - Legacy only ---------- Advaced/Storage Conf. SATA C. - Enabl. SATA Mode - RAID mode Onb.raid 3TB+ - UEFI mode for GPT SATA IDE Comb. - Dis. Note that SM951 are not shown anywhere. SATA3_5Samsung 850 (GPT) -------------------------- In Windows/ThisPc - only SM951 and Intel 520 are shown In Disk manager SM951 = disk 1 Intel520 = 0 I havn't had time to investigate.
And I converted Samsung 850 to GPT - this is shown in BIOS but NOT in This Comp./Disk manager. I gladly take advice on this matter too :) |

It's a UEFI issue, an update was needed for the newest ASRock boards to accommodate the SM951 for booting an OS.
But, those boards all have the Ultra M.2 port, which is PCIe 3.0 x4. Your board's M.2 slot is PCIe 2.0 x2. You won't get the full performance out of your SM951 on this board. |

Your UEFI/BIOS might be in compatibility mode for the drives. If so, you have a UEFI formatted harddrive that might not boot into a legacy system. Also make sure that you actually have the SSD formatted for UEFI. You may actually be on MBR without knowing it.

Fatal1ty 990FX Killer will not boot with the Samsung m.2. SM951 128GB.
I have tried all BIOS versions and am now on latest 1.30. I have switched 'SATA IDE Combined Mode to DISABLED' I have installed Windows with 'GTP for UEFI scheme' The 'system browser' in the BIOS can see the m.2. slot and calls it 'M.2_SSD1: AHCI Controller' I can install Windows to SM951 and I can restore image but can not see in BIOS and can not boot with SM951. Please make BIOS update so SM951 is compatible with Fatal1ty 990FX Killer. |
