I gave up (tired of trying) and just hid it for now.
It seems that MS updated their statement about the update and possible fix could be available in the future. https://i.ibb.co/qJ6PRkK/Image-218.png |

My Secure Boot feature was disabled in the BIOS. Enabling it and clearing the keys (return to Setup mode) allowed me to install the update.

I can confirm disabling Secure Boot has allowed me to install this update on an HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G3 running Windows 10 21H2. I had the error listed above (0x800f0922) for update (KB5012170).

My Secure Boot is disabled as well and still can't update. I tried literally everything:
1. Checked the size of System Reserved partition. 2. Repaired the performance counters. 3. Tried to install the update manually. 4. Enabled all netfx3 and netfx4 features and many more with no success so far. 2022-08-10 16:56:45, Info CSI 0000014a The queue has completed running, and AI failures have occured. 2022-08-10 16:56:45, Info CSI 0000014b ==Error Summary Start== 2022-08-10 16:56:45, Error CSI 0000014c (F) Installer: Secure Boot Installer Binary Name: securebootai.dll ErrorCode: 8007007a Phase: 40 Mode: Install (upgrade) Component: Microsoft-Windows-SecureBoot-FirmwareUpdate, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, ProcessorArchitecture=amd64, versionScope=NonSxS[gle=0x80004005] 2022-08-10 16:56:45, Info CSI 0000014d ==Error Summary End== 2022-08-10 16:56:45, Info CSI 0000014e Rolling back transactions... 2022-08-10 11:12:45, Error CSI 00000025@2022/8/10:08:12:45.729 (F) onecore\base\secureboot\servicing\advancedinstaller\securebootai.cpp(363): Error HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER) originated in function Also, I don't use Bitlocker at all: 2022-08-09 23:55:43, Info CSI 000000ec Secure Boot: 'Attempting to apply Secure Boot update' 2022-08-09 23:55:44, Info CSI 000000ed Secure Boot: 'The Secure Boot update could not be applied. I've fixed this problem on my OptiPlex 7020. Go into the BIOS and Disable Secure Boot. Then the update works fine. Reboot and go into the BIOS again to Enable Secure Boot. Is Secure Boot worth having/ What do people think?

You are not alone. I have the exact same problem with a Dell OptiPlex 7020. No solution yet. Time to try changing firmware settings I suppose.

Hello,
I have AsRock Z370 Extreme4 and BIOS P3.30 (Yeah, I know there are newer versions, but I am happy with this one so far). I am unable to install the today security update (KB5012170). All others installed smoothly. The error code is this: There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0922) My system files are ok (sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth) are fine. According to the Microsft's article, I should contact the manufacture and that's why I am posting this here. Some original equipment manufacturer (OEM) firmware might not allow for the installation of this update. To resolve this issue, contact your firmware OEM. Any ideas? Is Asrock aware of the issue? Thanks! |
