Turns out the SATA cables of the PSU are finnicky. I got the HDDs and the EVO recognised, now the optical drives remain.

Hello all,
I have exactly the same problem X570 PRO4, 128 GB RAM, RTX 4070, originally BIOS version 4.50, upgraded to 5.60 and tried 5.61 and 5.63 as well, now running 5.60. System passes al checks (single beep, and going into POST). Entering the BIOS shows no SATA drives. which I checked with: optical blue ray drive optical DVD drive WD Red 1 TB HDD Toshiba 500 GB HDD Samsung Evo 750, 500 GB SSD I checked everyone of them separately. Always same behaviour. I tried powering on SATA Interfaces in the BIOS, then they show up in dmesg output when booting from a Stick (OpenSUSE Leap 15.3). However none of the storage devices show up. How can I check if the PSU (Enermax MarbleBron 750 W) provides power to the SATA cables? Thanks in advance, George |

Inxi output below in case it sparks any ideas. Ignore the kernel etc, it was just a live usb image rather than anything permanent. Unraid doesn't contain inxi

Hoping someone can help me as I've gotten to the tear my hair out phase
Essentially, using the X570 Pro4, with a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU. Intending to use it as a NAS so installed Unraid on a USB key. It all works fine, system boots. I can detect some SSD drives I've installed to be cache drives, I can also detect a NVMe drive I installed on the MB too. And any USB drives I connect are detected also. The problem is no matter what I do I cannot get it to detect any SATA HDD's I connect. So normally I'd think this either has to be (a) MB BIOS (b) SATA cable (c) Power to HDD (d) SATA connectors on the MB or (e) OS driver. Oh and the HDD themselves. However for (a) I've updated from the V3.70 BIOS it came with to first V3.90 and now V5.50. Makes no difference what version I'm on (b) I've used a variety of SATA cables, and I can disconnect the HDD and connect an SSD via the same cable and it works (c) I've checked via a power meter and I'm getting 3.3, 5 and 12V as expected and again the same power connection works for an SSD (d) No matter what SATA connectors I use for the SSD's they're recognized, but changing SATA connectors for the HDD makes no difference (e) I've tried a live Linux usb too and the same issue is seen. Which doesn't surprise me as the HDD isn't seen in the BIOS list either. I've tested some of the HDD in another device via a SATA to USB connector and it seems fine. It used NTFS by default, I tried changing it to FAT as thats what the USB's I used to update the BIOS used, but again it makes no difference. Its mostly 18TB drives I'm using so perhaps thats not supported by the BIOS, I don't know.. I have a 10TB HDD connected too, and its not detected either. I have the output of an "inxi -Fazy" if its of use to anyone. Without being able to use HDD's, this is of almost zero use to me as a NAS. So hoping someone has a bright idea as I'm running out of options to try. |
