As a poster had mentioned previously turning off the serial port is important for building a Hackintosh which is one of the reasons I bought the DeskMini. Also I have a thing about turning off features on a computer that aren't being used, it's the paranoid IT manager in me. Smile

If it comes down to it I'll try to edit a DSDT to disable it but I'm not too thrilled about it. But really all that needs to happen is to set the COM port default to off, no UEFI menu options needed. So hopefully a UEFI fix happens quickly.

Besides the serial port being stuck in the UEFI in the "ON" position the other rough edges were installing the antennae, more USB ports would be nice but I know it requires a different chipset, and dropping the VGA port for another DP would great.

Unfortunately the BIOS doesn't not have the means to turn it off. Usually there is a Super I/O setting in the UEFI setup but it isn't there in BIOS 1.40 (Unless I missed it which wouldn't be first time I've missed something that's right in front of my face, my wife will tell you how good I am at that Smile).

This is what the advanced screen in my UEFI looks like. It is missing the Super IO option

I have to say DeskMini 110 is a great design. It does have a few rough edges and more USB 3.0 ports would be appreciated.

You are right about the COM/serial port being shown in Device Manager, while there is no COMl port on your version (and mine) of the H110M-STX board.

You are also right about the lack of an option in the UEFI to disable it. My wife would also tell you how often I miss something right in front of me, but that's when I'm looking for the mayo or mustard in the refrigerator. Wink  Important things like an option in the UEF I don't miss.

The COM port is included on the H110M-STX/COM board only. It is provided by the H110 chipset, so there is not an extra chip on the board that provides that feature.

I imagine an option to disable the COM port will be added in a future version of the UEFI. That is a common option in the UEFI of other ASRock boards. Until then, you can disable it in Device Manager, in the Driver tab. Is it causing you a problem of some kind?

This PC has three USB 3.0 ports, if you include the Type A port on the front panel. At least only one USB 2.0 port was included on the IO panel. The USB 3.0 port on the IO panel seems to support two USB 3.0 connections, so a USB 3.0 hub could be used on that connection. The H110 chipset supports only four USB 3.0 ports, so all of them are available, with two combined on the USB 3.0 port on the IO panel.

What other rough edges do you think the DeskMini 110 has? Smile

I am trying to build a hackintosh with it. Many people in another forum are interested as I am the first one to try using this board. Please help!

In the UEFI/BIOS, in the H/W Monitor screen, you can configure the CPU fan speed. Really, one fan on the Intel stock cooler is loud?

Some versions of the H110M-STX have a COM port, some don't. If yours does, in the UEFI/BIOS, Advanced screen, there will be an option to disable the COM port.

I'm not sure what size the plug on the PSU is. Looks like it could be 8mm?

This board should be no more difficult to use for a Hackintosh. But who knows, Skylake is a new platform. Never built a Hackintosh myself, maybe this will help you:

http://www.hackintosh.com/

So you don't know how to configure a CPU cooler's fan in the BIOS, don't know if your board has a COM port, and want to use this board for a Hackintosh? Sorry but, is this post serious? Confused

Thank you. Strangely, I haven't switched. And the drive appeared in device download.

A very simple reason, sorry to say.

The M.2 ADATA SP550 is a SATA type M.2 SSD. The H110M-STX's M.2 slot does not support SATA M.2 SSDs.

It only supports PCIe M.2 SSDs, like the Samsung 950 Pro or OCZ RD400.

The specifications for this board say it does not support M.2 SATA SSDs, in the Storage section:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H110M-STX/?cat=Specifications

There is nothing you can do to make this board compatible with M.2 SATA SSDs.

We really must be careful when buying M.2 SSDs. There are multiple types (SATA, PCIe AHCI, PCIe NVMe), and we must be sure the M.2 slot on a board supports the M.2 SSD we want to use. Also, some PCIe M.2 SSDs may not be bootable on older boards.

Samsung M2 2280 128Gb PM951 model MZ-VLV1280
It is also not defined. This module is not suitable?
It PCIe.

A Samsung PM951 is a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, and IS suitable for use with the H110M-STX board. You can use is for the Windows/OS drive.

I use a Samsung 950 Pro PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD in my H110M-STX board, with Windows 10, and it works fine. It is the same type of SSD as the PM951. Both of these SSDs will work fine in the H110M-STX board. They are NOT SATA M.2 SSDs.

Why is m2 port does not display the drive in the BIOS? I can't use this drive as a boot drive?

I have a Samsung 950 Pro NVMe SSD in my H110M-STX PC, which is in a DeskMini 110W PC. It is the OS/boot drive.

I see it listed in the Storage Configuration screen, and in the NVMe drive listing, in the Advanced screen. I have the new 1.40 UEFI/BIOS installed, which makes a difference about showing the SSD in Storage Configuration. Usually, NVMe SSDs are not shown in the Storage Configuration screen, because they are not SATA drives.

It seems you have never used an NVMe SSD in the past. In order to use it a a boot drive, you must configure the CSM option in the Boot screen. Either set CSM to Disabled, or with CSM enabled, set the Launch Storage OpROM Policy option to UEFI Only. Then restart the PC, go into the UEFI/BIOS, and it should be at least shown in the NVMe screen. With the 1.40 UEFI/BIOS installed, then it will also be shown in Storage Configuration.
