BIOS update needed for Z170 K4/D3 with G4400

You mean the ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4/D3 mother board? Yes I understand, that name is a pain to type in.

Just to be clear, with the G4400 CPU installed in the board, you can boot an OS, right? You can also get into the UEFI/BIOS in the usual way, right?

If you can at least get into the UEFI/BIOS, you can update to any UEFI version you choose.

One small detail, UEFI version 1.30 no longer exists on the UEFI download page. That does not matter, since all versions beyond 1.30 will have the appropriate CPU microcode.

I highly suggest using the Instant Flash method to update the UEFI. It is the most reliable method.

These instruction omit one detail, which I assume the author thought is obvious. The UEFI download file is a zip file, that must have its contents extracted before it can be used for an update. Just do the usual Windows extract procedure, and then copy the resulting file to the root of the USB flash drive.

Put the USB flash drive in a USB port on the board's IO panel. You can use a USB 3.0 port, as long as the flash drive is recognized, Windows 7 might only work with a USB 2.0 port.

Instant Flash is in the Tools page of the UEFI. If you use a CPU and/or memory OC that you know is not stable, setting the CPU and/or memory to stock speed is a good idea.

If you still have questions, etc, let us know. If you can get into the UEFI on your board, no need for a new UEFI chip.
