From what I can see in the manual it seems like you should be able to use all 10 so long as you do not populate any of the M.2 slots. Each M.2 slot shares PCIe lanes with 2 SATA ports (so you lose 2 ports per M.2 device you use).

Hi,
I am planning to get an Z170 Extreme 7+ MB with an i7-6700K CPU. The MB has 10 SATA connections and I want to use them all. 1x SSD, 1x optical, 8x hard drives as single drives (for software raid). The Graphics card will only be a GTX 1050 TI only for NVENC encoding. So I think I will not need it to be 16x PCIe. Of course I would like to use some USB 3 connection and other onboard connections. Is this setup possible with the amount of lanes from the 6700K or do I have to plan for a different platform? Thanks, Normann
