I have just bought some X99 Extreme4 motherboards to add some nodes to my HPC cluster, together with some i7-6800k processors. As the BIOS on the boards was an older version, I had to use a spare 5820k processor first in order to update the BIOS to the latest version (3.6). I then put the 6800k processor in and installed the node into the cluster. The issue is that when I take the graphics card out (as a compute node, I don't need a graphics card in there, and don't want the extra heat generated by it) the node won't boot at all. With the graphics card back in, it's fine.

I've been using the same boards with 5820k processors in with no problem, so the issue is either with the later version of the BIOS, the newer CPU, or both.

The beep code I'm getting does seem to be associated with video card not detected.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this set-up working without needing a graphics card installed?

Richard
