Thanks with the help! I RMA-ed the CPU after I tested it one more time in a friend's mobo. It had the same exact symptoms, so definitely CPU. Happy New Years!

Yes, it could be one of the channels is dead or erratic.
In fact it is the most common way the memory controller fails, one channel for one reason or another simply stops working or never worked to begin with.

2 boards same fail point? I think not. At this point I would RMA the CPU, it's memory controller may be defective.
The only way I can see it being the board is if they returned the same board you sent off. We have seen quite a few intel CPUs fail lately. In the last 2 years here on the forums I have seen at least 4 CPUs turn out to be the problem, most commonly with memory controller issues as you are describing.

So I've been trying to figure out my RAM issue for the past month.
First some specs: CPU: i7-6800k PSU: EVGA Nova G2 850w Motherboard: Fatal1ty X99 Professional Gaming i7 Bios 1.40 RAM Try #1: Corsair Vengeance LED 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4-24000) C15 for DDR4 Systems - Blue LED PC Memory (CMU32GX4M4C3000C15B) RAM Try #2: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB (4x8GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory F4-3200C16Q-32GTZB This is my 2nd board after I RMA the first board for the same problem. At first, the system booted up perfectly fine with the Corsair Vengeance ram. All 4 sticks were recognized and no issues were found. A week later, the system failed to boot up unless I removed the ram from C1. I tried various things such as raising the system agent voltage, increasing ram voltage, and disabling all overclocks. I also tried various ddr4 speeds, 2133, 2400, 2600 - 3000. None worked, so I RMA-ed it. On my second board, it booted up fine with no issues, but a few days later, I started getting a lot of BSODs and memory management errors. After a while, it stopped recognizing C1 again. This time, I thought it was because of my RAM so I bought a 2nd set of RAM, G.SKILL TridentZ. Unfortunately the G.SKILL ram had the same behavior as the Corsair. I tried switching bios to 1.10, resetting cmos, switching back to bios 1.40. Nothing can get C1 to be recognized. I even took out the CPU and reseated it and made sure the color wasn't pressing hard on it. One thing that was interesting... for a test, I put both corsair and G.Skill RAM together. 6 sticks were recognized but C1 and C2 were not recognized. The memory is detected in CPU-Z though, just not BIOS. Weird o.O. Anyone have ideas to what else I can do? |
