In order for any mother board to be able to use an NVMe SSD as the OS drive, it must have NVMe support in the UEFI/BIOS. The latest Intel mother boards have NVMe support, older boards require a UEFI/BIOS update that adds NVMe support. Your X79 Extreme6/GB does not have a UEFI/BIOS update that adds NVMe support. The X79 Extreme11 also does not have a UEFI/BIOS update that adds NVMe support, so I don't know how true the information you mentioned really is. If in that case a Samsung 950 Pro was used, then it may be possible since that SSD has a built in Option ROM that allows it to be used as the OS drive on boards that do not support NVMe. A potential alternative for you is in the link below. The same website also provides instructions on modifying the UEFI to add NVMe support: http://www.win-raid.com/t2375f25-Guide-NVMe-boot-without-modding-your-UEFI-BIOS-Clover-EFI-bootloader-method.html |

Has anyone successfully used the Intel 750 NVME SSD with the X79 Extreme 6/GB? Just thinking about upgrading to an SSD, and I want to make sure they'll work with this board... I cannot seem to find any information other than someone was able to make it work with the X79 Extreme 11. I want to make sure that this X79 Extreme 6/GB board is capable of booting from it as well. I do not want it as my secondary drive.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
