well i can share some experiance here hence why i replied
i also have the 965 in a system which co-incidently i ran world of tanks on answer = the phenom 965 runs wot on max frame rate (120) with a suitable gpu (was a rx480) i just done a quick overclock to 3.8 and more importantly clocked the northbridge to 2600 or 2800 i cant recall which as far as im aware the overclocks on both 980 and 965 will end up more or less the same max speed so ......... i do suggest the 965 mate |

my son got an athlon II x4 640 at the moment and it's bottlenecking his GPU, GTX 770 in some games, world of tanks being one of these.
I have planned to replace his system next year, but in the meanwhile a 30$ 980 might do the trick, it might yield a 50% or more increase in FPS. that being said, OCing a 965 might also work, but I am wary of temps, I'll have to replace the fan - then the fan would be worth more than the CPU, lol. aaaaaaaand.... I might overclock the 980 as well ;-) I'd really be interested in knowing if a 980 works in this board. I regret that electronics manufacturers quit updating their bioses and drivers so early, because a lot of the gear still does its job if provided with the right software. I already had to dump prefectly good gigabit NICs because these Netgear asshats were too lazy to make drivers for windows 10 as well as a couple of WIFI adapters, a scanner, etc. Some others now have trouble with WoL, grrr... so... anyone tried the 980 ? hello all :-)
the CPU Phenom II X4 980 http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X4%... isn't on the ALiveXFire-eSATA2 mainboard's CPU compatibility list: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/ALIVEXFIRE-ESATA2/#CPU last BIOS version (P4.00) was released in april 2011 and the x4 980 was released in may 2011. other than the higher clock speed, the x4 980 seems in all points similar to the most powerful CPU on the official list, the x4 965. so my question is - did anyone try sticking a Phenom II x4 980 on a ALiveXFire-eSATA2 or ALiveXFire-eSATA2 R3.0 board ? what happened? works or not? thanks!
