Dear Jebbie,

Thank you for choosing ASRock.

Regarding your case, we built a system in our lab, Samsung 960 EVO work at PCIe Gen3 x4 properly.

This is our system configuration.

CPU: i5-6600k

Motherboard: Z270 Gaming ITX/AC

SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 1TB

BIOS: P2.20

We provide some suggestion.

1.          Load BIOS default.

Press F9 during BIOS to load BIOS default, press F10 to save configuration.

2.          Update BIOS to latest version.

3.          Reinstall your operating system, and only install the driver from our website to check.

Thank you!

Yours truly,

ASRock TSD

Good morning folks I am in need of a little assistance here. I built this system new back when the motherboard mentioned in the title first came out. My specs are as follows

Mobo: Z270 Gaming ITX/AC
CPU: I5-6600k
RAM: Crucial Ballistix
Graphics: Zotac GTX 1050 TI
Storage: Samsung 960 EVO 250 GB

That is the nitty gritty of it. It isn't a gaming rig it is actually my workstation setup. Super overkill am I right heh. So as with any new build you want to see how it stacks up by running some benches. When doing so I noticed my 960 evo was not doing so hot compared to others who have bench marked theirs. I am getting 1k seq read and writes. I finally noticed the cause of this issue the other day but I am not sure how I resolve it.

The issue is that my M.2 Slot is running at Gen3x2 instead of Gen3x4. I noticed the discrepancy thanks to Samsung Magician. This would account for my huge loss of performance. Can someone please point me in the direction of what BIOS setting, Drivers I need, or Hardware bottleneck that needs fixing that would cause that slot to be running at x2 instead of the advertised x4 it is capable of?

Besides the cut in half performance of the drive everything is working swimmingly and has been for the months I have been using it. I am lazy and therefore haven't made the time to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for any input you guys/gals can give me. I fully expect any solution/ answer to be a glaringly obvious one that I didn't recognize due to my incompetence.
