Thanks so much for this, you inspired me to check my OC again. Here are my current settings that seem stable: Fixed Voltage: 1.360V LLC Level: 1 Multi-Core Enhancement: OFF All Core Overclock: ON Multiplier: x50 Cache: AUTO MinL: AUTO VCCIO @ 1.200v VCCSA @ 1.190v BCLK Spread Spectrum - Disabled AVX Offset - Auto BCLK Aware Adaptive Voltage - Disabled Intel Speedstep - Disabled Intel Turbo Boost - Enabled Intel Speedshift - Disabled Long Duration Power limit - 4095 Short Duration Power Limit - 4095 CPU Core Current Limit - 255.00 What should i tweak/change? This is what my settings were that i have been running the last couple months BEFORE i read your post. |

Old post I know (I'm bored while my coffee is being made), but the i5 8600k is generally known as one of the best kept secrets for gaming, many overclocking to 5.1Ghz with ease (Delidded helps a lot).
A delidded 8700K should hit 5Ghz all cores, even if you have a mediocre sample. Quick BIOS settings: The older BIOS versions seem to be better, but the Microcode to protect from security flaws is important to me, so I stick with v3.10 - no need for going higher as they are really for 9700/9900 series CPU's. Fixed Voltage (this board lacks adaptive voltage, and the offset implementation is not the best. Fixed voltages are perfectly safe if not stupid: Start at 1.36V and you can safely go up to 1.41v for daily use, assuming you don't plan on keeping this CPU for more than 10 years. :) LLC Level 1 is just the best option on these Z370 AsRock boards. Turn of Multi-Core Enhancement All Core Overclock Multiplier x50 Cache x45 Min x44 VCCIO @ 1.05v VCCSA @ 1.08v BCLK Spread Spectrum - Disabled AVX Offset - Auto (same as 0 - thanks AsRock, lol) BCLK Aware Adaptive Voltage - Disabled Intel Speedstep - Disabled Intel Turbo Boost - Enabled (you can't overclock without this enabled) Intel Speedshift - Disabled Long Duration Power limit - 4095 Short Duration Power Limit - 4095 CPU Core Current Limit - 255.00 (you can type 300 and it will default to max) DRAM should be XMP 2.0 DRAM Frequency - choose your RAM's XMP speed instead of leaving as 'Auto' Primary Timings - type in the actual timings instead of Auto and just type the number '2' in place of Auto for 'Command Rate' You don't need to touch anything else in DRAM. Run 'Realbench' 30 minute stress test to ensure stability. If BSOD then only adjust Fixed vCore until you are stable Use HWInfo64 (sensors) to keep an eye on vcore/temps etc when you are stress testing. vCore should remain pretty stable with only small vDroop under load - that's why LLC is really the best option for higher end OC's on this board. I'm running delidded 8086k @ 5.3Ghz all cores - 1.39v (Got lucky with this chip). Idle temps are 28-29C in room with Ambient of 72F (22.2C) Under full load in Realbench, average temps are 67-69C with occasional spikes to 72-74C which are well within specs. I gave up on trying to use the Offset voltage method as it's just not good - why they didn't implement proper 'Adaptive' voltage is beyond me. Higher voltages at idle (within reason) won't harm a CPU. What kills CPU are High Current AND High Power usage I'll probably ditch this board and pickup an Asus Hero z370 board as I'm pretty sure my CPU will do 5.4Ghz, but this board is too 'loose' anything over 5.3Ghz. Wouldn't recommend to OC over 4.7GHz in such case. P.S. Try such settings: CPU Configuration screen "Multi Core Enhancement"= Disabled "CPU ratio \ All Core\ All Core" = 48...49 "CPU Cashe ratio"= 44...45 "Long Duration Power Limit = 4000 "Short Duration Power Limit =4000 Voltage Configuration screen "CPU Core/Cashe Voltage \ Fixed Mode \ Fixed Voltage(V) = 1.3 "CPU LLC" = 1

Hi, is there something I've been missing, got a new Z370 Taichi alongside a 8600K or two actually and both I only seem to be able to get to 4.7GHz stable around 1.31~1.32v, 4.8GHz seems to already require huge bump in vcore (I didn't try exactly how much as it would get so hot but 1.36v isn't enough).
I know there's a silicon lottery involved but cmon 2 different CPUs at 4.7GHz max over 1.3v is beyond bad luck I'd say. Most what I've seen should do at least 4.9GHz at 1.36v or so (bad examples) and good ones can do up to 5.2GHz stable under 1.4v even. Even the autoclock 4.8GHz setting in bios wasn't stable which set it to 1.36v (normally these settings are set with a large headroom compared to the average CPU out there). What is fishy is how both absolutely takes a huge stability drop from 4.7GHz -> 4.8GHz indicating it might be some paramter of some sort that is reaching its limits or perhaps faulty mobo voltage regulation or bad pins or whatever. Setup: ASRock Z370 Taichi with latest bios 2x i5-8600K G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3200 @ CL14 SuperFlower Leadex Titanium 1000W (overkill I know, it's only because I got it so cheap) Gigabyte GTX 970 Gaming G1 (will upgrade as soon as prices calm down) Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler with Liquid Ultra TIM (not delidded) Temps around 80C fully loaded non-AVX at 1.31v. Even AVX load at 90~95C appears to be stable at 4.7GHz clock speed which again adds to the fishiness of it all, why all the instability bump of a 100MHz clock bump.
