Running on P4.50 for 2 days now with the WiFi disabled, things seems stable!

Only remaining issue that's both odd and annoying: when I first turn the machine on after it has been off for awhile, it freezes at the ASRock splash screen.  When I then turn off and back on, it will load Win10 just fine.  So this is my normal method to start the machine!

why would it not recognize the Windows Boot Loader right away?

this is definitely related to my Win10 being on the AHCI M.2 device.  obviously way better than what happened with P4.40, which was that it wouldn't work at all and i couldn't load Win10 successfully, but still a strange bug!

any ideas appreciated...

I understand that the WiFi problem is not fixed by BIOS 4.50, unfortunately. You may like to confirm it though.

Well, it seems the BSOD is definitely related to WiFi as I suspected.  see this post: http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=7807&KW=bsod+wifi&title=wifi-bsod-on-ab350-gaming-mitx-ac

i will upgrade the BIOS to 4.5 tonight and see how things go.  the BIOS page lists "M.2 SSD compatibility" among the fixes with this new BIOS, so it sounds promising.

until i read that there is a stable WiFi driver i will just disable the built-in WiFi and use a USB dongle Wifi i have lying around

The only major issue with 4.43 BIOS is the fact that the WiFi is unusable. Even light usage causes Windows to crash. Several people have reported this, and I've confirmed it myself. I don't use WiFi on a day to day basis because it is inferior to cabled Ethernet in every way except convenience. At least one other Raven Ridge user who really needs WiFi has tried the 4.40 BIOS and was still frustrated by it in addition to the other problems. The only real solution is to wait for the next version to be released. In the meantime the choice is yours but FWIW I'm sticking with 4.43.

Far too many examples of different problems from different users re: 4.40 for me to start quoting.
Believe me, it was not a random comment, please take some time to explore issues that people have had with AB350 ITX and X370 ITX and see how many relate to BIOS 4.40.

i may have spoken too soon on having a "working" system... the P4.43 BIOS showed me 2 blue screens within a span of ~10 minutes while i was streaming a movie from Amazon.  also seemed like the (built-in) WiFi became disconnected.  since this is a HTPC , this is obviously a big problem if WiFi and streaming causes problems.

i went back to P4.40 to see if the issue occured... it did not after ~15 minutes.  but then i am back to intermittent issues with recognizing the Windows Boot Loader on my SDD.  why the UEFI would recognize the Windows Boot Loader and successfully load Windows sometimes but not others seems especially strange to me.

i may give up on using the M.2 ssd and install Windows to the a SATA ssd.  this should get around the boot issues (but is not what i want :)   if that system runs stable on the P4.40 maybe call it a day?

@stree why do you say that the P4.40 has lots of issues?  it clearly has some boot issues, but I had never seen a Windows 10 blue screen until today on the Beta P4.43...

bkamppsch, I hope you know you can decline the Microsoft Account and use the old type (as I do).  Enjoy, John.

I did install the latest Win10 and, as you said, one of the first things it did was connect to the Internet and asked me to sign in with my microsoft account.

i haven't build a system in like 5+ years (I'm back from MacLand) and the complications that booting from PCIe storage devices (like M.2 SSD, etc) along with more complicated and finicky UEFI BIOS programs makes the process more complicated than it was in the past, but then again PCIe storage devices are FAST so once you get going it's worth it!

Good point JohnM:  I had a copy that I thought was older, so rather than use, just went to MS site and downloaded most recent ISO.......

Did you use the very latest and freshest Windows 10 installer? If you used an older one (from 2017, say) and then installed a mass of updates you're likely to have some problems. I noticed that the new installer asks different questions. For example, the first thing it wants to do is set up a Microsoft account or log into an existing one. The older installer I used to use didn't do that.
