Nothing. PCI-E x16 for GPU-S is be design always limited to 16 Lanes
This means if u use more then One GPU the will share these 16 Lanes
Split up like this

1GPU X16
2GPUs X8/X8
3GPUs X8/X4/X4

your remaining 16 Lanes are used for non GPU PCI-E Cards and NVme SSD's

But the i7 CPU has 28 Lanes.

Now i have one GPU in Slot 1 and the other in Slot 3 and PCI express 3.1 USB Card  in SLot 5.
The USB card runs with 4 Lanes fine but the GPus are running in x8/x8.

Now i have 20 Lanes in use?
But i dont understand this.
What is going on with the other 8 Lanes?
Theres no SSD installed in M.2_1 SLot.
Why i cant use the other 8 Lanes for the first GPU?

Hello,i hope anyone can help me?
on the German Forum i got no answer since 3 Days.

i buyed a x299 Taichi xe Mainboard and a i7 7820x Cpu.
I have two GTX 1070 FE installed in SLI Mode.
In have a samsung 960 evo M.2 SSD installed on the sekond M.2 Slot
and a Intenso SaTA M.2 SSD on the third M.2 Slot.
The second and third M.2 Slot should use the Lanes from the x299 Chipset?

The problem is,i have not enough USB Ports and i want try a pci express usb 3.1 Card to become 2 more usb 3.1 ports. This Card runs with x4 Lanes.

In the Manual is writen, when i use two GPUS on Slot 1 and 3 i cant use no more Slot?
What is this for a Bullsh*t?

I will try to calculate it: First GPU x16,second GPU x8,the USB Card x4. The Result is 28 Lanes !!!
Ok, i dont understand why in the Manual stands that the first M.2 Slot is connected directly to the CPU with 4 lanes but i dont have a Card installed in there!

At this moment i have connected the USB Card on the Last pciexpress Slot and i have to reinstalled the GPU drivers and yet,the GPUS running at x8 x8 and the USB Card is working.
but with this Calculation i have only used 20 Lanes? The First M.2 Slot is not connected.
And when im wrong, and the first M.2 Slot is Connected with x4 to the Chipset or so where the Hell are the Last 4 lanes?

What is this for a Board??
