    Posted: 13 Feb 2024 at 1:34am
Hi folks,

I built a new system based on the ASRock X670E PG Lightning and everything works as expected. But regularly when I turn it on I get 4 short beeps, although the system boots as expected.

Things I tried already:
- Turning off XMP
- Running memtest86 (no errors)
- Switching to only 1 Ram slot. Switching different slot combinations
- resetting CMOS
- Updating BIOS

I really don't know what else to try. Since it doesn't seem affect the functionality it is mainly annoying, but I would like to get rid of it.

Thanks for your help

Now it even beeped 5 times. Is there a way to read an error log for those codes?

Those quick beeps typically mean the system didn't detect the display right away.
It isn't an issue, some displays take a while to switch from standby to on and if
the system is checking during the switch it won't find a display connected. Modern
boards are all designed to detect and use a display that is connected at any time
so it isn't a problem, as soon as the display registers the system will just continue
as normal. The beeping can happen for a number of reasons, it is only cause for
concern when you have no display being outputted at all.

The beeps will cut off immediately when a display is detected so that is why you
can get anything from 1 beep to 5 (5 being the no display detected code). If the
display is detected on 2 it will stop beeping there or 3 or 4 etc.

Hope this helps.

That is very helpful, thanks for taking the time. I read some hints in other places to this explanation and was assuming this may be the case.
It would of course be great if asrock had these topics documented :)
