Hello everyone,
just recently I bought myself a new mainboard with an AMD fx 8350, the asrock 980de3/u3s3. It worked fine even tho the 3.0 ports were not working, only as 2.0. It didn´t really bother me to much, but recently I bought a r9 nano wich only has 3x Dp and 1x Hdmi port but my Main monitor only has VGA input so I need to use a USB3.0 to VGA adapter. I cannot use the HDMI because this is the output for my second monitor. The problem about the Adapter is that if he doesn´t have 3.0 but only 2.0 he only displays a resolution of about 480x640 or something similar. The drivers of my etron Host Controller is 1.0.0.118 which is from what I´ve read not the worst Version. But the Version of my mainboard is only 1.0 since it was on it as I bougth it. When I try to upgrade the version to 2.0 via the orinal website Bios update Downloads and Download the 2.0 version of Windows and try to install it, the window pops up and tells me that the rom version is incorrect and from then on untill I restart my sound engine all my sounds are screwed up. Here are my system settings: Computer Information: Manufacturer: To Be Filled By O.E.M. Model: To Be Filled By O.E.M. The best UEFI/BIOS update method to use is Instant Flash, which is a feature in the UEFI/BIOS.
Download the UEFI/BIOS version 2.00 for Instant Flash. All of the UEFI update files are .zip files, that must be unzipped before use. Right click on the download file, select Extract All, and copy the result to a USB flash drive. The extracted file should be 2,048 KB in size. Put the USB flash drive with the Instant Flash file into a USB 2.0 port on the board's IO panel. Go into the UEFI and in the Advanced Screen, find and start Instant Flash. Follow the prompts to complete the UEFI/BIOS update. Do not remove the USB flash drive until the PC completely boots again. I hope the USB 3.0 to VGA adapter will work for you. |

I finally had the oportunity to try and update my Bios but it didn´t work.
I downloaded every single Instant flash file from here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/980DE3U3S3/?cat=Download&os=BIOS I plugged it in the mainboards USB2.0 slots at the back and as the BIOS scanned for instant flash datas it scanned trough all of the files from 1.10 to 2.00 but after it finished it said there are no BIOS instant flash update datas availiable. This is how the files look like on the USB Any Ideas how to do that? Thanks for helping.

Are you sure you are downloading the BIOS for the correct board?
The reason I ask is that there is a 980DE3/U3S3 R2.0 also listed and it uses a different BIOS. If your board is in fact the R2.0 verstion then a BIOS update from the older model would not be detected. The only visual difference between the 2 boards I could find on the product pages was the XFast USB logo appears to be absent from the R2.0 board. It may be worth a try downloading and trying the BIOS from the R2.0 board I linked. If it matches your board and allows you to update then your board must be the R2.0 version, if not then it will fail to detect a valid update just as it did for you previously.

I think you are right Xaltar, about Toonyx having the 980DE3/U3S3 R2.0 board.
There is a hint in the first post, the reference to the "1.0" BIOS. The first BIOS version for the 980DE3/U3S3 board is version 1.10: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/980DE3U3S3/?cat=Download&os=BIOS The first BIOS version for the 980DE3/U3S3 R2.0 board is version 1.00: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/980DE3U3S3%20R2.0/?cat=Download&os=BIOS Assuming he was right about the BIOS version being 1.00. Given that his board's Instant Flash ignores the BIOS files he downloaded, I think you are right. |

Yep, that was the problem. The Update worked but didn´t give the expected bug fixing results I was hoping for. At least the 3.0´s now work. Now I jsut need to have a good enough power supply unit to make my Hard drive not crash when it copies something
Anyways thanks for the help and sorry for being so stupid to not find the correct version. Cheers |
