I'm running the N68C-GS4 FX with an AMD 9550 Phenom CPU and 4 Gigs of RAM with a Kingston 120GB SSD loaded with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit and the other day we had a power outage and all the other machines I run recovered fine but the ASRock board did not recover at all. Windows would not restart completely. It seems that it keeps getting stuck during the starting windows screen. It POSTs and I can enter the BIOS and make changes but whatever I have tried, windows will not start properly. I have tried the following to the best of my abilities: F8 Recovery Mode Menu Item "Repair Windows" - launches but seems to not get far before hanging... F8 Recovery Mode Menu Item "Start Windows Normally" - Launches but quickly hangs... Same as above. Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration - not successful Safe Mode and Start Windows Normally - not successful Safe Mode and CMD prompt trying to fix mbr with following commands: sfc /scannow chkdsk c: bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootrec rebuildbcd - not successful. Seems not to recognize any command line commands at all. Tried to use a "Windows 7 64-bit Repair Disc" that I had previously made for such an occasion. - not successsful. Tried to use my Windows 7 Home Premium OEM Installer Disc - Seems not to be able to read the disc in the optical drive even when the optical drive IS set to the 1st boot device. - not successful. Seems to jump to loading the OS on the SSD before even reading the optical drive. (I was trying to get to the "repair installation/windows" stage of the install process to try that option.) Tried to use a Hiren's Computer Repair & Diagnostics Boot CD - Same as above... Seems not to be able to read the disc even when the Optical Drive is set as 1st boot device. Seems to jump to loading the OS before even reading the Optical Drive. (I was trying to see if I could use any boot repair tools but couldn't even read the disc.) I CAN always turn off the power (by means of the front panel main switch or back power supply power switch for supposedly a "softer restart" and use F8 to get to recovery menu but at different times it only lists "Repair Windows" and "Start Windows Normally" and at other times a fuller list of options including all three "Safe Mode" options, Debugging, Logging, etc, etc. - Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why I sometimes get only two options and at other times the full list of options... In any case, none of these options allow for a recovery and as the Optical drive doesn't read/start before trying to load the corrupt Win 7 OS, I seem to be unable to do a full Re-Install and then go through the painful re-installation of all my favourite programs and settings. Sorry for the very long explanation, I just wanted to be thorough and let you know as best I could what I have tried and what hasn't worked so far. I am not a complete newbie but obviously not sufficiently well versed to solve this particular problem. I am as I explained above, aiming for an OS recovery and not a DBAN wipe and Re-install. Not even sure if it's possible in 2024, I last did one in 2019 or so... P.I.T.A. Thanks for any advice. |
