Asrock H97M Pro4 no internet connection?

I'm not a rich person, but I recently bought a 48" 4K LED TV (Bauhn) from my local Aldi ha ha... It was a big risk, I know (was expecting to return it)! I couldn't be more happier with the picture quality! Superb! Was half the price of anything else on the market.

Lol! No everything is working now, thanks again. Yes my ISP was the first port-of-call, they walked me through the modem's "Quick Start" thing but obviously neglected some settings!

I had of course rebooted the modem many times before this, btw!

I am blaming my ISP for incompetent tech support!!

I'm still not sure what the problem was, but when I went through the modem settings myself, I tweaked a few things & anyway now it works & no problems.

I still dunno what the problem was tho'? Except a setting was missed by the ISP, but I inadvertantly plugged in the right settings when I tried the borrowed modem? Then "somehow" repeated" the same thing when I re-connected my modem? Sheesh, who knows.

It's all working now, and thanks you guys, now I'm gonna throw myself into the bonfire.

OMG, after all your high tech diagnosis and testing, we forgot the most basic thing to do when a network connection fails...

Power cycle the router! Cool

That's the first thing I do when the home network is not working, and 99.9% of the time, that is all it takes. Then I'm the hero and I really did a lot of nothing. I'm guessing you never did that? An innocent mistake, too easy, why would it make a difference? Uhm, ever hear of a reboot? Wink  Why does that make a difference? Something gets corrupted, and asking why takes us into that endless tunnel of questions that we will never answer.

I bet you didn't need to reconfigure one thing in your router again, did you? Only if you lost your settings when you put the original router back again, which normally should not happen. I would bet you did not need to even do the setup procedure, but that doesn't hurt.

You would of tossed it into a bonfire?! Yes I know the feeling, but when I get started chasing a fix, I can't stop. When the simple things fail, I know I have a real problem. All I did was use different inputs and outputs for the TV. The good news is this might inspire the need for a 4K TV! Shocked

The borrowed modem worked, he then had to return it and tried to install the original modem again and then that too worked. So yeah, probably a hard locked modem that needed to be powered off long enough to fully discharge. Possibly an interrupted automatic firmware update? Either way he is up and running again now Smile

Or a: the borrowed modem isn't compatible, b: the incorrect firmware loaded for the OPs ISP, c: The modem wasn't provisioned at/for his location.

A call to the ISP could have confirmed many things towards the OP's final issue with the borrowed modem.

In all likelihood the modem properly reset while disconnected.

I would say your results indicate no Broadband Internet signal coming from your router/modem, plain and simple. You said you tried all the Ethernet ports on the router, so it seems the Broadband connection died in the router.

The WiFi was still working, meaning you are still getting a signal from your ISP. That makes you thing the router is Ok, but the Broadband switching circuits seem to have failed.

Electronic components fail without warning, even with no power surge or lightning strike. It's possible you slept through a storm, right?

I had a storm at night last week, I'm the only one in the house that heard it. Had a nearby lightning strike, scared me like crazy! The next day, all the HDMI inputs on a flat screen TV no longer worked. The TV was connected to a surge suppressor, and otherwise still works. The cable box and DVD player worked fine, connected to the same surge suppressor.

An HDMI switching box I use with my monitors and PCs also stopped working. It and the PCs were connected to three surge suppressors in series. All the HDMI outputs on the video cards or integrated graphics work fine, as well as the monitors. A new HDMI switch box worked fine.

I also lost a simple network switch used for the basement. No signal out of the switch at all. But connect the network input cable to the switch directly to a PC or XBox, and it worked fine.

As I like to say, stuff happens. The results of that stuff may not make sense, but when I see it myself, why continue to ask why?

What do you see in the Device Manager entry for the Intel I218V networking chip?

If you have the Intel networking driver installed, there are diagnostic tests that can be run.

What does the Windows Network and Sharing Center say about that Internet connection? You can run the Troubleshooter and see what the result is.
