I am interested in the X99 Taichi to be used with a 5930K (40 PCIE lanes so I can use (2) M.2 SSDs. I also want to utilize a full 128 GB of RAM. From the QVL it looks like I only have a couple choices of approved RAM.
I tried checking Crucial, Corsair and G.Skill websites but they don't even list the Taichi mobo.
I wanted to be sure I am understanding this correctly. First, a couple questions. * What is SS/DS column? * What does 'v' mean in "Quad Channel" and "OC" column? I assume if Quad Channel says "4pcs" that means I cannot install 8 sticks of RAM to have 128GB total. I assume that 'v' means I can run 8 sticks. So I am looking for 16GB RAM modules that have a 'v' under Quad Channel. So if my assumptions are correct it seems my choices are: * Kingston HyperX HX421C14FBK4 @2133 (no OC possible) ~$760 * Kingston ValueRAM KVR24N17D8 @2400 (OC possible) ~$744 * Kingston HyperX Predator HX430C15PB3K4 @3000 ~$1040 I don't care too much about overclocking and something about the name ValueRAM turns me off. The Predator @3000 is not really any use to me since from what I read the 5930K is not going to be able to take advantage of RAM speed > 2133. So that leaves the HyperX as my choice. Does this sound about right? ![]() Edited by txcraig - 11 Nov 2016 at 12:33pm |

You should be fine using any X99 memory.
That is X99 certified memory with X99 XMP Profiles and not kits with just XMP Profiles for Skylake/100 series boards. Another hurdle is funding a 128GB matched kit. Sadly, you'd be better taking your chances getting two 64GB kits and hoping for consecutive serials across all the sticks in both 64GB kits. Or call G.Skill and they will match a 128GB kit for you at no extra charge. Some wait time but seeings they've matched all the sticks you KNOW there won't be a problem when you place them. |
