do you think the sky OC on hyper boards , will work with kaby lake? thats the whole point at the end, if it doesnt i am better of with skylake.... or i should consider an z270 or x370 motherboard, along with my cpu upgrade...

The new Intel Kaby Lake processors are known to be neither a die shrink nor architecture change from Skylake processors.

Since Kaby Lake processors can be used with Skylake chipset boards (Intel's 100 series chipsets), I highly doubt that BCLK over clocking (Sky OC) will not work with them.

Whether or not Kaby Lake processors will be better than Skylake for over clocking remains to be seen. The base and Turbo clock speeds of the Kaby Lake 'K' processors will apparently be increased a bit beyond those of the similar Skylake models. The TDP specification has also increased slightly.

The Z270 chipset has a few new features, including more PCIe lanes than the Z170. Those lanes are not for use with graphics cards, so we are still stuck with 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes from the CPU on this "Mainstream/Performance" platform.

I'm afraid no one can answer that at this point. You will also not get any official answer even when they are released as the feature is officially discontinued.

You can try it sure Wink

The reason Wardog (and all us moderators really) don't recommend updating to a new CPU support BIOS is because that CPU lineup isn't available yet and these pre release UEFI updates often tend to be buggy. If you are wanting to experiment and check things out while being aware of this fact then by all means do so. Let us know how it goes too Thumbs Up

You can flash one BIOS yes. The second BIOS chip is a backup that will allow you to restore a previous working version should you have a problem with the main BIOS so in your situation you are perfectly set up to play around with it safely. Just don't update the backup BIOS and you can always restore the main BIOS should things mess up.

WoW Thanks Wardog, dint thought to check the beta section of the motherboard!!!

well i wanted to flash one bios , my motherboard has two of them , so in case that it does not work with my current skylake i will switch  to the other bios (the on not flashed)
can i do that ? or since i flash the 7.2 beta bios it will apply to both of my motherboard bios ?

My thought is to apply the 7.2 bios and try to overclock my skylake with the sky oc option ,and bclk overclock that i am currently doing, if that works, then it should also work with kaby lake,
i want to know first and then purchase a kaby lake, because i want a low clocked model (i5 7400?) which will be cheap too, and then OC that chip!!! that's what i do with skylake right now after all

Sad news but thats the reality!  i doubt asrock will ever release kaby lake bios for hyper boards but time will tell

For now i am stuck with sky lake, until i get a 200 series board!!!

Thats too bad because i planned my upgrade path on the possibility that i can get a kaby lake on my h170!!!Cry

A Kaby BIOS could still come to your H170 board. As Xaltar says, ASRokck as well I assume ALL manuf's are consumed with getting and having their products ready to match Kaby's release date.

Dang dude!

Take a look in the supposed BETA BIOS section of the H170 Performance/Hyper linked below.

The Kaby Lake BIOS you're asking for. In spades no less asz it has already been updated once from 7.10 to 7.20

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20H170%20PerformanceHyper/?cat=Beta

DO NOT flash to a 7.xx BIOS until immediately before you switch out your current Skylake. Most(all?) posters here who have flashed the Kaby Lake specific 7.xx BIOSes have reported from strange to down right obnoxious issues.

These words can't be stressed enough "No Kaby Lake processor, No 7.xx BIOS"

but Asrock want kind enought to offer a bios update for my

Fatal1ty H170 Performance/Hyper ,
so far there is only bios for the h170 pro4 motherboard.... and it doesnt seem that
asrock will release any more updates.... My question is , if i update my motherboard to the
H170 pro4 bios update, will it still work?

i know these are hard questions, but there is nowhere else to answer , Asrock support is non-existent!

If the question you posed to ASRock was "My question is , if i update my motherboard to the
H170 pro4 bios update, will it still work?" then no you'd hold your breath a long long time and any considered non-existant Support wouldn't be forthcoming.

They are completely different boards released a fair distance apart.

IMO it's unfair that you feel Support lacking.

Quote In theory this means that if you have a current-generation motherboard designed for Skylake chips (H110, B150, Q150, H170, Q170 and Z170), a new Kaby Lake chip should fit nicely. But, you should confirm this with the manufacturer as, generally speaking, a fairly hefty BIOS update will be required to get a new processor to play nicely with a motherboard with an older chipset.
