    Posted: 09 Jul 2016 at 6:49am
I have a problem with non-working PCIe x1 cards in my Z170 Extreme6 motherboard. All the cards are in working order and they were tested OK in three different computers with different motherboards. I have 5 expansion cards and only 2 of them works in any slot; third one works partially, fourth, and fifth one are not detected at all. I suspect an error in the initialization of the cards at the UEFI start (but I may be wrong). I'm using UEFI v2.50.

Here is the list of these cards with device IDs, names and working drivers:

1. Working cards:

a) Axago PCEA-SPL (2x RS232 + 1x LPT controller):

PCIe to Multifunction Peripheral Controller - driver v3.0.0.0 (25.06.2014)

      PCI\VEN_9710&DEV_9912&SUBSYS_1000A000&REV_00
      MCS9950MF\STN_CASCADE_COM
      MCS9950MF\STN_CASCADE_COM
      MCS9950MF\STN_CASCADE_LPT

 b) Oupree OPR-HD880 (HMDI/Component/RCA/S-Video framegrabber):

      HD880 Video Capture Device 2.00 - driver v1.0.27.18 (10.03.2010)

      PCI\VEN_1A0A&DEV_6202&SUBSYS_62021A0A&REV_01

2. Partially working card:

- StarTech PEXHDCAP60L (HDMI/DVI/VGA/RCA/Component/S-Video framegrabber):

      PEXHDCAP60L (two devices) - 1.1.0.142 (18.03.2015)

      PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_12AB7517&REV_03

This card is detected properly in any slot but it's impossible to run it due to an error $0A of the driver in Device Manager.

3. Non-working cards:

a)  TBS 6928 DVB-S2 satellite tuner card with CI+ module slot (1st edition):

    TBS 6928 DVBS/S2 BDA Tuner - driver v1.0.1.6 (19.12.2012)

    PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_00016928&REV_03

b)
StarTech PEXHDCAP
(HDMI/DVI/VGA/RCA/Component framegrabber):

   PEXHDCAP60L (one device) - driver v1.1.0.142 (18.03.2015)

   PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_12ABF501&REV_03

Due to similar construction, a driver for the newer (PEXHDCAP60L) can be installed and it's visible with the newer name (on the other computers of course).

Both cards are not visible at all, no mather which slot I put them in.

My colleague has the MSI Z170A Gaming M7. One of the previous versions of the UEFI for this mobo has a problem with visibility of three cards at once. It was solved when he downloaded UEFI update from MSI support site which was uploaded by one of the moderators. User of their forum has reported that his GTX 980Ti GPU did not work in PCIe x16 upper slot but did work in the lower ones. I don't remember if he updated his UEFI flash with that non-official update.

I would be very grateful if you could look at the problem. Smile

Here is my config:

Mobo: ASrock Z170 Extreme6
CPU: Intel i7-6700k @4GHz
Memory: Kingston HyperX Savage DDR4, 8GB, 2800MHz, CL14 (HX428C14SB/8)
SSD: Kingston SM2280 120GB SATA3 (SM2280S3/120G)
HDD: WD 3TB
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon R9 380X 4GB GDDR5

One important bit of missing information is what version of Windows you are using.

If you are directing your post at ASRock technical support, the official way to do that is via this form:

http://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp

I'm not 100% sure about this, but is your goal to have all five of these cards working at the same time?

About the two cards that you say are not detected: Does that mean when none of your other cards are connected to the PC? Or some other configuration?

When you have tried these various cards in the board, connecting and disconnecting, have you cleared the CMOS/BIOS every time you change the card configurations? If not, you are taking a chance that not doing so will not make a difference. I would not take that chance.

Back to possibly using all five cards at once, or even a subset of the five: You forgot to include one card in the mix... your video card.

There are 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes supplied by the CPU on Skylake systems.

With the video card in the first PCIe x16 slot, any additional cards used in the PCIe x16 slots will have the video card running at x8, with 8 PCIe 3.0 lanes left.

The Z170 chipset can provide PCIe 3.0 lanes. The x1 slots should be provided by the Z170 chipset. If there is a limitation about the number of x1 lanes in use at one time, the manual does not say.

With one or more of these cards in the board, from Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, and then System Information.

Expand the Hardware Resources tree. Go through each entry, paying particular attention to Conflicts/Sharing and IRQs. IRQs may be problematic to diagnose, since two or more cards may attempt to use the same IRQ.

Do the same for Components.

We need the OS version to validate compatibility with the cards.

I'm sorry for the really looong delay.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro (version 1607 build 14393.576) with StarTech PEXHDCAP60L driver 1.1.0.167 (15.08.2016).

No, my goal is not to have all five of these card working at the same time. I just tested all of them to see which one does not work either. Each card was tested in all PCIe x1 slots as a single one and with all other possible configurations (with and without gfx card too). Yes, I cleared CMOS settings also and it made no difference.

It's important for me to activate especially a PEXHDCAP60L capture card...

Here is the part of the listing from System information: http://voy.pigwa.net/other/list.txt

I found a two strange events in the Device manager. It says that two PEXHDCAP60L sub-devices couldn't be migrated and that both of them had a strange Last Device Instance ID - as an USB device (?):

Device PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_12AB7517&REV_03\6&14f4dd07&0&000800DB could not be migrated.

Last Device Instance Id: USB\VID_0E8D&PID_2046&MI_00\6&383C5A09&0&0000

Device PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_12AB7519&REV_03\6&e9a8258&0&001000DB could not be migrated.

Last Device Instance Id: USB\VID_0E8D&PID_2046&MI_00\6&383C5A09&0&0000

It seems that it's someway connected with the drivers for MediaTek USB drivers which I use with my Ulefone Future phone. But how?

I found also that there is a problem with Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family PCI Root Port #20 - A16A driver version 10.1.1.38 and with all previous versions. The PEXHDCAP60L uses a connection with this Z170 chipset's device. Maybe this is the main reason why my capture card doesn't work...

Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A16A&SUBSYS_A16A1849&REV_F1\3&11583659&0&DB had a problem starting.

Bear with me, as I've never installed a capture card .........

""... could not be migrated."" and ""Present: false""

To both of the above.

Was the OS upgraded and this occurred?

With none of these capture cards installed, meaning uninstall the one one(s) there currently, then reboot:
1. Device Manager > View tab then select Show hidden devices
2. Search for all instance that refer to this card, and any sub-instances it might have created in Device Manager, and delete them and the associated software if/when offered

And when finished with the above and rebooted, then followed the manufacturers proper installation steps, grab the latest driver, 1.1.0.167

Still nothing... I removed PEXHDCAP60L card from my PC and removed all instances of its driver (including the hidden ones), then rebooted and installed again. Still, it can not be properly started and it shows the same error messages as previously.

No, my Win10 wasn't upgraded from the older Windows version. I installed it from the latest ISO image right after assembling the PC, then installed this capture card.

Oh, I forgot: my Extreme6 motherboard is ASR001 ver. 1.04.

I suspect that can be an undetected bug in the Intel driver itself. As I mentioned, an another user with Dell XPS8700 PC with Z170 chipset had encountered exactly the same problem with this capture card. I have tested it with my friend's MSI Z170A GAMING M7 mobo with the same Intel Series 100 chipset and it worked great. PEXHDCAP60L is fully operational.

First, upgrade the BIOS to 2.60 using Instant Flash from within the BIOS under Tools:

Then I'd say it's time to contact StarTech/AVerMedia.

You haven't installed the ASRock X-Fast USB have you? If so, I'd remove that for sure.
