Hello Everyone,

I've just set up a new system as follows:
Mainboard AsRock E3C226D2I
Memory Kingston KVR16LN11 (2x 8Gb)
Processor Intel BX80646G1840
HDD Samsung SATA 320Gb
PSU Corsair / SF 450W (CP-9020104-WW)

I cannot boot it. My case has no speaker, so I don't know if is there any beep (it's a NAS case). The CPU spins, fans spin, the mainboard led is on (green). After a few seconds the led starts blinking green and the CPU stops. Fans keep spinning. No POST in the screen (it is as if nothing was connected to the monitor).

Since this is a NAS case, there is no keyboard attached (not that this is an issue but, who knows?)

My suspicion goes to the memory. It is not part of the mainboard rack compatibility list, but its specs are exactly the same as, for example, some Crucial ones that are compatible (1600MHz DDR3L Non-ECC CL11 DIMM 1.35V 240-Pin).

Any hints before I spend more cash on new memory without knowing if this is the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you have an E3C236D2I?

I have the same board and it doesn't support DDR3, also it's a socket 1151 board and the processor you listed above is a socket 1150.

Hi @failing005,

Thanks for the reply.

Yep. Thats the board. The specs site (http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=E3C226D2I#Download) says that it accepts DDR3 1600/1333 (that's why I made my dumb mistake of buying memory without checking the memory QVL). Regarding the processor, it is in the "white list". The system boots fine (I can enter IPMI and check all stuff, even SSH to it) but have no video. Other posts say that no video means wrong memory, and this board is extremely picky about memory.

I just wanted to have some more "solid" confirmation since here in Brazil we don't have money back guarantee so, If I end up buying unnecessary memory, my only way to a (partial) refund is selling on eBay.

Thanks again.

Ah I see:

I think you made a typo, you have the E3C226D2I not the E3C236D2I.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm making a lot of mistakes on this little toy... Confused

Do you know which UEFI/BIOS version your board has now? The CMOS chip usually has a sticker on it with the UEFI/BIOS version printed on it. That chip is in a socket, located between the silver chipset heatsink and the blue memory slots.

Your G1840 processor is a Haswell-R model, that requires at least UEFI version 2.00. If your board does not have at least that version, your CPU will not work.

Your NAS case does not have an opening for the IO panel on the board?
