Hello,
This is my first post, So I hope I'm posting it in the right section. I've installed a new system based on H71M-DGS motherboard with I5-2400 cpu and for some reason the cpu frequency goes down after few minutes of stress testing with OCCT 4.4.1. I also tried it with prime95 X64 and it behaves the same. Max temps are 66 celsius on stress test (Around 32 idle). Tried different memory moduls and power supplies but it still the same. Bios is 1.50. OS is windows 7 Pro X64 Thank you

Welcome to the forums
What is the CPU throttling to? If it is 3.1ghz then this behavior is normal and is the way "Turbo" works. The CPU will turbo to its rated turbo speed depending on thermals and core utilization, generally turbo will kick in in single core workloads and a little less so in dual core loads and revert to stock speeds with 3 or more cores active. I hope this helps

Hello Xaltar,
It throttles to 1.6GHZ for few seconds and then rise to 3.1-3.2 and after few minutes does it again. You can see it in the graph : https://copy.com/f06drCB7JU6VXAir

Did you configure anything in the OCCT CPU stress test? There are one and five minute "breaks" in the CPU stress test that are configured automatically, if you use Automatic testing vs Infinite testing. Which type did you use?
Your board is not exactly a high power over clocking board, it seems to have a four + 1 or 2 phase CPU VRM design with no heat sink on the VRM transistors. You are not over clocking, but the CPU cooler and case fan number and placement can affect the outcome of stress tests. What CPU cooler are you using? What PC case do you have, and does it have any extra fans mounted in it? Do you use a video card? |
