You described the situation perfectly. You even included the reason in your post.
POST is relatively long, and actual OS loading it extremely fast. Those two things, POST and OS loading, are affected by different factors. Your answer to the situation is, "and some other harddisks...". If they are really spinning HDDs, they take time to get going, several seconds (5 - 8) and POST checks each one, and waits for them. Older mother boards used to have delay times you could set in the BIOS to wait for HDDs to get going, up to 30 seconds. SSDs spoil us with their instant start up time, HDDs are another story. Unplug one or more of your HDDs, and see how long your startup time is. One of them may be particularly slow. I've seen this issue in the other ASRock forum several times. In case you don't know, the UEFI/BIOS update cleared any settings you changed in the BIOS, unless you redid them after the update. So the Ultra Fast setting may be gone. |

Hi,
I have a complete new System with - Z170 Extreme6+ - I7 6700k - 16 GB DDR4 - 256GB Samsung SM951 M.2 2280 (running OS--> Windows 10) - GTX 970 and some other harddisks... The Problem is, the system takes about ~20 seconds to boot which is far too much in my opinion, because the windows boot itself is nearly instant. most of the time it spends during the ASROCK-logo and I don't have any clue where to search for a solution. All drivers are up to date. Also the bios is on the newest version(1.40 updated with asrock app-shop) and I activated ultra fastboot in bios. The System isn't overclocked. I don't knwo if this has anything to do with but in the beginning some times I had the problem my pc freezed during booting (just a black screen the pc won't even start but fans were running), and I had to reset. this also happened during the last bios update and I had to recover the Bios from the back-up bios to make my PC work again... but but after the recovery I updated the bios again and everything seems fine since then, except the boot duration. Would be nice if someone can give me some hints. Thanks
