If you haven't RMA'd that board, I'd suggest that be your next course of action.  Nothing in your computer should be crackling, sparking, or smoking.

EDIT: IF these things have already happened, chances are your board and potentially other attached items are damaged from such an event.

take a second look at the pc case stand off screw mounts (the brass nut things you use to screw the board down to)

im betting a very high chance you have one in the wrong place and its shorted out the back of the circuit board

in which case your next new board will do the same thing

This is probably the most likely scenario actually.

either way your best bet is just remove the board and return it to the store i'm pretty sure you'll find burnt marks on a chip once you get the board out of the system.

Its a very big chance the motherboard is already dead as any computer component usually does when crackle and smoke occurs.

Can you identify where the smoke came from?

hello, today the x470 taichi i ordered came

however only the blue lights turn on when i plug in the power supply. when i plug in the power button from my case it turns on only while i am holding down the power button, at which point the cpu fan turns on and the motherboard begins to crackle and smoke. what should i do to fix this problem?
