you will have to either get an 3.0 x 4 pci-e card for the nvme drive or
find some AHCI m.2 drives they are hard find.
The motherboard was not built with a Nvme pcie controller
XP941 AHCI (MZHPU128HCGM MZHPU512HCGL MZHPU256HCGL),SM951 (basicly the 960evo) PCIE-AHCI (MZHPV128HDGM MZHPV256HDGL MZHPV512HDGL)

CPU Medics has some
asus, gigabyte and msi may have the same issue with this chipset.

Hi,

i bought a Silicon Power SSD P34A80 that is PCIe 3.0 x4.
The Rack Z97M WS has only a Gen2 x2 M.2 connector.
But from reading around it should work - just slower.

The problem is the SSD is not recognized in the bios.
That means i cant set it as boot device.
Windows sees it and also ESXi (installation to it works).

I guess without a bios update I'm out of luck?

Is there a workaround?
Maybe something that boots from USB and does see the SSD and than boots the OS?
