I am guessing you are using a Sandy Bridge CPU (2000 series). Those only support
DDR3 1066/1333. I suspect you won't be able to get 1600mhz unless you upgrade
to a 3rd Gen (Ivy Bridge) CPU. It would be possible if your board was a Z chipset
board as Z chipsets allow for overclocking (RAM and K series CPUs).

If your system is working well I wouldn't recommend updating the BIOS. It can be
complicated updating 60 series boards as they had support for Ivy Bridge added
later and require very specific steps to be followed or you will brick the board.

It is possible that ASRock may have added 1600 support with a BIOS update but I
wouldn't risk it, intel never supported it with Sandy Bridge non-K CPUs. Your
best option would be to run the system at 1333 and manually adjust your timings
for better performance. Search google for a good guide.

Hi everyone! I have a ASRock H61M-HVS, with BIOS ver P1.20. (i know, my mobo is very very old; i still appreciate any help with the issue)
I just bought two new RAMs with 1600MHz frequency, higher than my two old ones, keeping in mind that on the off. page of the mobo it says, that it supports 1600 MHz. And now my BIOS doesn't want to change to 1600, highest is 1333. My bios is old, and i found a 2.5 ver, but there are no words about new frequency support. And with all warnings about damage because of bios changing i'm kinda freaky to do it. So here's the question - if i update my bios, would i be able to get 1600MHz frequency? Lots of thanks!
