Hi Everyone,
I was fortunate enough to be able to build a brand new gaming rig this past week but am running into a couple of minor issues that have concerned me- a noob pc builder. My first issue came when getting my computer setup for the first time. After getting passed the BIOS page and logging into windows, my PC would stay on anywhere from 5-40 minutes before going black screen and restarting as if someone had pressed the reset button. I noticed that on startup, the CPU and DRAM LED's on the MOBO were lighting up Red until the PC got to the ASRock loading screen, after being logged in for a while it would restart, and the GPU and BOOT LED's would light up Red - again only until it would boot to ASRock screen. Once it boots to that screen, the lights disappear and i am good to log into windows etc. I took it to a local PC repair shop and the guy pegged my RAM (Corsair LPX Vengeance 3600mhz) as the issue. I ordered new RAM (GSkill Trident z 3200mhz) and it appears to be working just fine now, no restarts since plugging in new RAM. Over the last 2 days i have put in at least 4 hours of gaming on CSGO and GTA V high settings not a single issue which brings me to my main point (i thought this background would still be important). The lights STILL function in the same way, CPU and DRAM lighting up red on boot until ASRock screen and then GPU and BOOT LED;s light up red when shutting down. After explaining this situation - am i missing something here? in the manual it says red LED = Bad, yet it appears to be working just fine now so i think the RAM truly was the main issue, at least as it relates to the restarting issue as i have no problems now. I am just a little uneasy about the lights still lighting up Red on boot and shutdown as i cannot tell if there is an actual problem or if the mobo is just a little wonky and i should not be worrying. The temps and all of that appear to be fine but i could certainly be missing something as i am new to all of this. Any helps is appreciated!!! My build: Ryzen 3600 (using stock cooler), MSI 1660 super gaming x, Gskill trident RGD 3200mhz, ASRock x570 pro4, EVGA 550w Gold GA |

They serve as debugging indicators. What happens is that they come on during a
specific boot process, if something fails during that process the LED remains lit. When the system is not POSTing (not reaching the ASRock logo) and an LED remains lit then you know the component the LED corresponds to is the issue. In other words, that is exactly what they are supposed to do. There is only a problem if one or more of them remain lit past the POST (Power On Self Test), at the end of the POST process the lights should go off and the ASRock logo and prompt to enter BIOS or the boot menu should display on your monitor. |
