Good afternoon. I was planning on updating the bios on my Asrock x370 killer motherboard. I am planning on updating the motherboard to carry the 3000 series ryzen cpu. I notice on the page that the more recent updates it states that it's not recommended to do the update if I am using a summit cpu ( which I am). So my question is. Should I change the cpu to the new 3000 series before I update the bios from a usb drive or after? Thank u for anybody that can help ??

Hello Geno1001,
What bios are you on now? I guess 2 scenarios as quick answer to you. 1) if you're on very old bios, version 5.3 and below, this BIOS does not recognize Ryzen 3000 series, you cannot boot using Ryzen 3000 and will not be able to update bios because can't even boot. Hence must update bios before insert 3000 cpu. 2) if you are on bios 5.4 and above, or any bios with "Combo-AM4" are support most but not a Ryzen as of today. i,e. OK for Ryzen 1000 series to 3000 series, then you can put in the 3000 cpu immediately. Combo-AM4 bios I think does not support low end CPU like Athlon, or something, you need to check the web for detail. Good luck !!!! |
