Hello,

I am a new owner of a W480 Creator motherboard and have a problem with connecting a thunderbolt 3 device (QNAP 672XT) to the computer.
Thunderbolt (Titan Ridge JHL7XX) is enabled in BIOS, the BIOS has been updated to the latest, tried Windows 10 1803/1908, tried thunderbolt application/drivers provided by ASRock (quite old release) / latest Intel drivers and the app - I never saw Intel thunderbolt in System Devices and I have a serious doubt that it actually works. The event log does not contain any relevant information either.

May be someone more experienced can explain me the following -
the manual for W480 shows that one has to connect 2 mini display cables from GPU to 2 input mini display ports (the rear I/O panel) - I don't do that since I cannot.
To connect the thunderbolt device I am using the USB-C Thunderbolt connector ((the rear I/O panel) and a 20GB passive Intel Certified thunderbolt cable (works fine with the USB 3 devices like external SSD). The USB-C Thunderbolt connector (the rear I/O panel) works fine in USB mode as well.

I thought that W480 contains an integrated thunderbolt 3 controller which should just work as such without any external connections (like those input mini display connectors(the rear I/O panel)).
I have difficult time to find any information explaining the aforementioned connection but I certainly saw some posts on the forum where users complained about the support of Titan Ridge Thunderbolt controller on ASRock motherboards and this is very upsetting.

What would you say?

Hello,
Just a quick update (may be it will be usefull for community).
Yes, Thunderbolt 3 works on W480, I am using it to get access to a QNAP NAS. No, it does not require connection to video adapter because the only time when you need it is then you want to pass through video through Thunderbolt. In my case, NAS has nothing to do with video therefore it just works without any extra connections.
I cannot say anything about speed, I am running it using a 20Gbe passive 6 feet cable and get the speed comparable with the builtin 10Gbe LAN - looks like NAS is the one who limits the speed in both cases.
The provided ASROCK drivers worked fine on Windows 10 1809 and 1903 builds. None of native MS Thunderbolt stuff / never Intel drivers really worked, no matter how hard I tried.
