Cannot access UEFI on Z170M Pro4S?

Can anyone help me? I seem to have somehow broken my UEFI BIOS. Just put together a new PC with an i3-6100, R9 380, DDR4-2666 RAM and a Asrock Z170M Pro4S mobo. Everything is generally working fine after getting drivers and so on installed, but i've suffered the odd BSOD a couple of times whilst gaming. I was trying to find the source of this, and in chasing that I discovered my RAM was only running at 2133mhz. I wanted to go and change my speeds in the UEFI menu, but before I did so I downloaded the latest BIOS for my motherboard so I could also try the unofficial Skylake overclocking out. I installed the new BIOS just fine (2.40) but now when I hit F2 to launch the UEFI menu during boot the screen just goes black. When I move my mouse cursor around it leaves trails behind it that appear to show the menu underneath, but nothing else happens and I have to hard reset the computer. I've tried going back to older versions of the BIOS but with no success.

Any ideas?

Thanks, I gave it a go (the 10 minute clear) and it came up with a different screen saying date and time was not set, but it still locked up when going to the BIOS. Guess i'll have to try the four hour clear then.

Some £6 bargain Argos keyboard. The brand is Trust, connects via USB (I assume 2.0 but it doesn't say). It all worked perfectly until I updated the BIOS though, now the computer starts absolutely fine on Windows but I can't access UEFI. Even manually restarting into UEFI from Windows won't work because the option simply isn't there. Instant Flash still works though.

So you're saying the ASRock Restart to UEFI program does not work for you? I know there is a way to do that in Windows too, but this ASRock program has never failed for me.

If you are referring to the Windows method, download and install the ASRock Restart to UEFI program. I don't know how I survived in the past without it.

Forget the battery clear method for now, just do the standard Clear CMOS with the jumper on the board. You are doing that with the PC removed from power completely, right?

A cheap USB keyboard should be fine, the more complex they are the more trouble they are when starting after a UEFI/BIOS clear.

Wait, I see your board does not have any USB 2.0 ports on the IO panel. Any chance your PC case does, and you have them connected to your board? If so, try using one of those.

Any UEFI/BIOS clear should cause a screen to be displayed that gives you the option to enter the UEFI UI or just boot to Windows with defaut settings. If you don't see this, something is wrong. Press F2 or Del when prompted to, and then sit back and WAIT for the UEFI screen to appear. No mouse games while you wait, sit on your hands!

Speaking of the mouse, what are you using?

The 2.40 version UEFI may not be the BCLK Skylake over clocking version. That would be the Beta 2.23 version, unless that feature was included in the 2.40 version.
