X99E-ITX not posting

   Hi All,
i have built the following setup:

Asrock x99e-itx
Intel i7 5820k
Corsais Dominator Platinum 2x16gb 3ghz
SSD Samsung 950 PRO m.2 512gb
Asus GTX970 DCMOC
Silverstone SX600-G PSU
case: cougar QBX

after initial issues with Ram compatibility (solved with latest bios - and help from this forum!) and powering up the system (wouldn't post - solved with a couple of CMOS resets) all worked well, windows installed in 5 min and all ran perfectly for a couple of weeks.

a few days ago, i opened the case to install an extra PSU cable to connect a blu ray writer, reconnect the power and the pc won't even reach post. just a little power impulse of less than 1 second and then dead. even this would not happen until I wouldn't disconnect and reconnect the power cable or hold the power button for more than 5 seconds.

no beeps, no monitor signal at any time.

i have tried the PSU on another PC and works just fine.
tried with 1 stick of kingston ddr4 2133, no difference

i have disassembled and reassembled, mobo, cpu, heatsink, ram and gpu, connecting only the minum required hardware and now the pc powers on, but still doesn't reach post.

cmos clear via jumper or clear button don't work, have tried resetting bios memory by disconnecting the battery too (only for a few minutes)
other than trying the long 4h cmos settings cleansing with jumper as well (as advised in another post), am i looking for a mobo issue here?

i would not really believe in an ESD caused breakdown, since i have wooden floors and rubber shoe soles, never had electrostatic issues in my house, the PC was assembled and sits on a wooden table.

	It seems obvious that something happened while or right after connecting the BD Optical drive, since the PC was working fine before adding it. Is the BD optical drive new, or have you used it in the past? I assume that you added a SATA power cable for that drive, and the SATA data cable? It seems you only have the 950 Pro as the other drive in the PC? No other drives until you added the optical drive? Do NOT continue pressing and holding the power button down for more than a moment when the PC is in the off/shutdown state. All that does is send the board a power on signal and then a power off signal very quickly, which confuses the board and PSU. You must turn the PSU off and unplug the power cord to reset the board and PSU after you have done that. Continuing to hold down the power button when the PC is off/shutdown serves no purpose and then requires you to reset the PSU and board. Sorry to ask, but is the 4/8 pin CPU power cable connected to the board?

	Hi, first of all thanks for the reply. I have another Samsung 850 evo drive connected to sata, currently disconnected. The blue ray is new, was assembled in the case in the beginning but could never power it up given that I needed a sata to slimline sata adapter first. The sata cable was already connected to the mobo, but not to the BR until I got the adapter. Yes the board has an 8pin atx female plug where 2 paired up 4pin plugs are connected

	That is one small case, even with the short depth of the SFX PSU. Time to double check all connections are firm and secure, and too, it'd be wise considering the cramped quarters and surely kinked up wiring, to jiggle the power wiring looking for a weak, loose, or even broken wire at any one of connection points at the psu and mb. All that kinking places stress exactly where it's NOT wanted. At/On the connection points. Have you built it outside the case yet? What was the result? Edited by wardog - 17 Feb 2016 at 9:44am

	hi wardog, sure it's small, that's where you end up using an ITX board... even though it's not extremely cramped, the short silverstone cables really help... i haven't built the pc out of the case, but i have left the PSU outside to ensure all cables were not tight and the result was the same. again the PSU powers up another computer no problem. I'll do further trials tonight, at the moment the pc is sitting without power cable and bios jumper in reset mode.

	So I've tried leaving the battery disconnected for the whole day with the bios reset jumper in reset position, power cable disconnected. No difference, the bios does not load. I've tried turning the system on outside of the case and it still behaves the same way I repeat, all hardware is brand new and has been running for 2 weeks just fine... Hope you still have some ideas

	hi All, I'm at a lack of options at the moment, shall i proceed with a warranty claim for the mobo? I might consider changing the PSU also, in case that is also faulty and causing electrical problems. from my experience building several PCs, I have the feeling this mobo was born unlucky. i thank you all again for the feedbacks received.

	Hi All, after the last post from a few months ago I've brought the mobo to a specialist shop and they have diagnosed it was faulty, so something happened to it even though no wrong use apparently had been made. I have sent my mobo back for RMA, got a new one back (or repaired, I don't know) and after assembling the PC again with all the precautions of the case, it would not post. I noticed the mobo after RMA came back with the cmos reset pin in clear mode (pin 2 and 3 in short), no difference when trying to post the system even by moving the bios jumper. after another assessment by a specialist shop that said my system parts were all good, seemingly the mobo was still the one to blame (probably not changed by the other shop). I've sent it back to the online store I bought it from and after a couple of weeks received a money refund. after a couple of months (I've been very busy with work and using my work laptop since then) I have bought another asrock x99e-itx from another store and now i'll proceed to assemble the system again. 2 questions before I proceed (Ii'm literally scared to put my hands on it): - the new mobo came again with the cmos reset pin in "clear-cmos" mode (pin 2 and 3 in short). any reason for this? should i assemble it and then move the pin to position 1-2 and boot the system? - in the past 6 months has there been any finding that recommends any special precautions with assembling and handling this mobo? thanks in advance for your feedback, I love this mobo and its performance I wouldn't like to find myself in the position of having to opt for another model and make in order to have my pc running Edited by thunder86 - 05 Aug 2016 at 12:27am

	I have to report that the issue was a defective motherboard. the new motherboard came with new bios and worked first time right.
