I've got the above with a gen3 NVME in slot 1. I've just bought another NVME and put it in slot 2 and BIOS and Windows cannot see it. Nothing is plugged into the shared SATA ports.
The first m2 drive is WD Blue SN500 and the new M2 is gen4 which might be the issue. I can't work out it it's compatible with M2 Ultra or not. I've not tried switching them yet to see if slot 1 will read it or not but will later today. So does this motherboard support Gen4 even if it operates at Gen3 speeds? The form factor matches and it occupies the slot no problem. Many thanks |

I swapped my current Gen3 with the new Gen4 and the PC booted fine from the Gen3 but still couldn't see the new Gen4 in the slot where the Gen3 booted fine from. Therefore the new Gen4 drive isn't seen by the motherboard. I though Gen4 was backwards compatible with Gen3 albeit at slower speeds than Gen4 is capable of....
Any thoughts? |

You're right. All newer generation PCIe devices are supposed to be backward compatible with older generation PCIe slots, including m.2 NVMe, obviously running at slower speeds.
It's possible the new NVMe drive is broken (dead-on-arrival). |

I doubt the new drive is broken but it is possible.
Is the drive on the Storage QVL? |

Not sure what that is unless it's the list of supported drives which is now out of date. Unless there's an updated online one? I've since bought a Gen3 WD Green NVME and that is also not seen. So I have no idea what to do now. |

Does the originally working WD Blue SN500 still work???
I can't imagine anyone getting two bad new drives in a row like that, so something else must be an issue. I can't think of anything clever here. Are you seating it all the way into the slot? Is it even possible to install an NVMe drive upside down by mistake? I'm honestly lost here. |

Yes that's the odd thing. The SN500 still works in either slot. It's the PC I'm using right now.
