Asrock Taichi Z390 - flashed P1.51 Bios

and now get LED error code "65" "chipset initialization error" Manual sez to clear CMOS and/or hit reset, have done it multiple times, cannot get to POST.

Went to try to change to the backup BIOS but there's no mechanical switch to change over like there was on my Asrock Fatal1ty i7 X99 mobo

have i bricked my mobo?

1.51 gave me all sorts of issues im back on 1.30 and very happy ... hope you get it sorted out.can you flash back to 1.30?

for others that stumble on this thread, one possible solution is using the AMI BIOS recovery procedure https://techjourney.net/recover-or-undo-corrupt-ami-bios-flash-update/

ie, putting the latest stable BIOS release on a USB stick or CD but renaming it AMIBOOT.ROM, then apparently using or holding the "Ctrl + Home" keys down while restarting the computer

it hasn't worked for me yet, but it may be because the system is not rcving any signal from my keyboard (USB connected) so tomorrow i'm going to try a PS2 connected keyboard

this would have been so much easier with a mechanical switch on the keyboard to select the backup BIOS

right after flashing P1.51, when BIOS restarted, it went into kind of a screwy sequence - 1st time made it the splash POST screen, the the white dots started circling - after a couple of seconds they stopped and screen went black. It then went straight into a loop restarting BIOS again, got to the POST screen for a fraction of second before screen went black.

After that all i got was black screen, no POST splash screen, and the computer was doing something - my CyberPower UPS has a LCD screen set to show wattage draw, and it ran up to 262 watts, so i did a hard reboot.

Like i said above then i found the Dr Debug LED showing code 65 = chipset initialization error with instructions to clear CMOS and/or reset button.
That did not give me any luv

Over on another forum, someone posted the instructions to the AMI BIOS recovery instructions - absolutely no luv, tried using them. Basically the AMI recovery technique calls for putting the desired flash file on a floppy disk (????) i put it on a USB stick, renamed as the instructions call for, AMIBOOT.ROM - tried the USB stick in front panel ports as well as rear panel ports, both USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 with no success. Tried putting it on a DVD and tried the DVD tray - no luv.

Per Ami BIOS, as a back i tried a PS/2 keyboard as maybe the USB keyboard wasn't generating a signal to the motherboard - again no love.

SPoke with John at Asrock Tech support this morning, he said the items i'd tried were what he was going to suggest so he handed me over the RMA dept. He said the flash might have corrupted the backup BIOS chip as well - the way i understand it's supposed to work is the system automatically switches over to the backup BIOS if the primary doesn't verify, so either it failed to switch over or it corrupted the backup BIOS as well

On my Asrock X99 mobo, there's a mechanical switch for the backup BIOS - what was nice, if you wanted to see if new issues were related to the primary BIOS, you turned system off, moved switch to #2 BIOS and restart. Simple, effective and always worked. Plus once you had dialed in your primary BIOS settings, you could copy them over to the secondary and save them there.

THe only board i could find that still has a mechanical switch for BIOS selection is the Gigabytes Z390 AORUS Master. I even went to the trouble to call in and ask one of the techs to describe how it worked (as there's zero in the manual about it) - he described same as my X99 Mobo - and added that the Ami BIOS doesn't always work in automatically switching over.

SO my Z390 Taichi will be flying home to the mothership for a programmer to flash the bios directly onto the chip. Besides my post and the other poster in this thread having issues with P1.51 there's another individual in another forum who posted having issues w/P1.51 and reverting to 1.30.

FWIW, i'm running Windows 10 Pro, and had only one drive (SSD, samsung 850), other than the Blu-ray drive i had no other items, ie PCIe NVMe drives, no GPU - nothing. I hadn't gotten around to finishing cleaning out the bloatware from Windows. PSU is a new Seasonic Focus Prime.



I called into Gigabytes, as their Z390

k, yeah, that's definitely not good, but I'm not sure it's the BIOS as it updated just fine for me. I'm typing on Windows with it atm.

What I have found odd is the BIOS seems to have removed Multi-core Enhancement (MCE) and all of the per-core overclocking options in Turboboost and elsewhere. It's just gone... or they hid it really good now for some reason.
